New York Rangers News

Shesterkin was the first goalie off the ice at New York's morning skate.

Shesterkin was excellent in New York's previous outing, saving 31 of 33 shots (.939 SV%), but received very little goal support in a game where his team only managed 10 shots on goal in a 2-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators. The 30-year-old Shesterkin has a serviceable 2.88 GAA and .912 SV% in nine games since returning from the Olympic break. The Rangers enter Wednesday's contest as -119 road favourites against a Toronto Maple Leafs team that played last night and won 4-2 over the Boston Bruins.

Shesterkin will start vs. Ottawa on Monday.

After losing 3-2 in a shootout to the Winnipeg Jets yesterday, extending New York's losing streak to four games (0-3-1), the Rangers will turn to Shesterkin on Monday against the Ottawa Senators. The 30-year-old Shesterkin is coming off a forgetful performance, allowing five goals on 36 shots (.861 SV%) in a 6-3 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. That said, he has been serviceable since returning from the Olympic break, posting a 2.97 GAA and .906 SV% in nine games (5-2-2). The Rangers enter Monday's contest as +166 home underdogs against a Senators team that is 4-1-0 in its last five games.

Laba is week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

Laba suffered a lower-body injury vs. the Devils on Wednesday and is going to miss some time. The Rangers labeled the rookie centre as week-to-week, so expect players like Jonny Brodzinski to remain in the lineup for the foreseeable future. If this is the end of Laba's season, he finishes with nine goals and 12 assists (21 points) in 65 games, one of the lone bright spots in an otherwise brutal season in New York.

Garand has been recalled from Hartford (AHL).

Garand was a fourth-round pick of the New York Rangers in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, but has yet to play an NHL game. The 23-year-old goalie has a 2.83 GAA and .896 SV% in 36 games (16-15-2) with Hartford (AHL) this season. It's unclear whether the Rangers are dealing with an injury in their crease that prompted Garand's recall.

Vaakanainen (upper-body) is out vs. Columbus on Thursday.

Vaakanainen exited Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils due to an upper-body injury after only playing five shifts in the first period. The 27-year-old Finnish defenseman is averaging 13:48 time-on-ice and has six assists in 33 games this season. New York recalled Connor Mackey from Hartford (AHL) in a corresponding move.

Laba was limited to only 8:40 time-on-ice in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils before exiting the game with a lower-body injury. The 22-year-old first-year forward is averaging 13:29 time-on-ice, recording 21 points (9G / 12A) and 98 hits in 65 games this season.

Shesterkin will start in Columbus on Thursday.

Shesterkin did not play in last night's 6-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils and will hope to solidify their crease on Thursday when he tends the twine against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The 30-year-old Sehsterkin allowed three goals on 25 shots (.880 SV%) in his most recent outing, a 4-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. That said, Shesterkin has been solid since returning from the Olympic break, posting a 2.72 GAA and .913 SV% in eight games (5-1-2). The Rangers enter Thursday's contest as +185 road underdogs against a red-hot Blue Jackets team that has points in 10 straight games (6-0-4) as they desperately continue their battle to return to the postseason.

Shesterkin will start against the Kings on Monday.

Although not officially eliminated from playoff contention, the Rangers sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and are playing their best hockey of the season. The 36-year-old Shesterkin has spearheaded the team's recent efforts, including a dazzling 46-save performance (.958 SV%) in his most recent outing, a 4-2 win over the powerhouse Minnesota Wild. Shesterkin has a 2.67 GAA and .917 SV% in seven games (5-0-2) since returning from the Olympic break. The Rangers enter Monday's contest as slight +101 home underdogs against a Los Angeles Kings team that has lost three of its last five (2-2-1), but continues to desperately battle for a playoff spot.

Korpisalo will start in New Jersey on Monday.

The Bruins are hanging on to a Wild Card spot in an ultra-tight race in the Eastern Conference, and will turn to Korpisalo on Monday against the New Jersey Devils. The 31-year-old Korpisalo allowed five goals on 40 shots (.875 SV%) in his most recent outing, continuing a losing trend for the netminder in a 5-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Korpisalo has allowed four or more goals in four of his last five games (1-1-3), posting a 3.98 GAA and .875 SV%. The Bruins enter Monday's contest as +108 road underdogs against a Devils team that has scored four or more goals in five of its last six games (4-2-0).
