With Frederik Andersen (undisclosed) day-to-day and unable to suit up for Game 5, the Hurricanes have recalled Martin from the Chicago Wolves (AHL), likely to back up Pyotr Kochetkov. The 29-year-old Martin had a 3.89 GAA and .846 SV% in a brief nine-game stint with the Hurricanes earlier this season (3-4-1).

With recent injuries to Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov, Martin was thrust into the crease in Carolina and struggled when called upon, posting a 3.89 GAA and .846 SV% in nine appearances (3-4-1). The Hurricanes recalled Dustin Tokarski in a corresponding move.

With Pyotr Kochetkov (concussion) still sidelined, Martin will return to the crease for the Hurricanes. The 29-year-old Martin has showcased mixed results this season, posting a 3.33 GAA and .856 SV% in seven appearances (3-2-1), but has won two straight. The Hurricanes enter Friday's contest as -154 home favorites against a Florida Panthers club that defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-1 in their most recent outing, snapping a season-worst four-game losing skid.

Pyotr Kochetkov (concussion) is reportedly nearing a return to the crease, but Martin will continue as the Hurricanes starting netminder in the interim. The 29-year-old Martin has showcased up-and-down results in limited action this season, posting a 3.40 GAA and .854 SV%, including one shutout, in six appearances (2-2-1). The Hurricanes enter the action on Wednesday as -179 home favorites against a New York Rangers club coming off a disappointing 5-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues.

Pyotr Kochetkov left the Hurricanes' previous game after a collision in overtime, temporarily leaving the crease to Martin. The 29-year-old Martin has been limited to only five appearances this season (1-2-1), posting a 3.21 GAA and .870 SV%, but could forced into more action if Kochetkov is out of the lineup for an extended time. The Hurricanes enter Monday's contest as -126 home favorites against the Dallas Stars, fresh off a 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

On the tail end of a back-to-back, the Hurricanes will turn to Martin between the pipes for the second time in four games. The 29-year-old Martin began the season in the AHL and has predominantly served as the backup to Pyotr Kochetkov. That said, he was tremendous in his previous outing, saving all 24 shots he faced in a 4-0 shutout victory over the Ottawa Senators. The Hurricanes have outscored their opposition 12-2 in their previous three games (3-0-0) and enter Thursday's contest as slight -103 road underdogs against the New Jersey Devils.

Martin's call-up from the Chicago Wolves (AHL) indicates that something could be amiss with Carolina's two-headed goalie monster, Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov, but nothing has been announced yet. Hurricanes' head coach, Rod Brind'Amour, will likely provide an update on Monday.

It was expected by some that Martin might be claimed when originally placed on waivers on Wednesday, but the 29-year-old netminder would not face the same fate that originally brought him to the Hurricanes last season and has been reassigned to Chicago (AHL) after clearing on Thursday. The Oakville native spent 2023-24 split between Columbus and Carolina and produced an ugly 7-9-2 record with a .889 SV% and 3.30 GAA in 19 games last season.

The Hurricanes will turn to Spencer Martin in their final game of the season on Tuesday against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Martin has not played since February 29th, coinciding with Frederik Andersen's return from injury, but was solid when called upon before that. The 28-year-old Martin has a 1.97 GAA and .922 SV% in five games with the Hurricanes (4-0-1). The Hurricanes enter action as -228 road favourites.
