The injury luck continues to get worse for Gabriel Landeskog.

The Colorado Avalanche captain has been a big story of the 2025-26 season, but once again, he’ll find himself on the injured list, as he’ll be out of the lineup on a week-to-week basis with a lower-body injury.

It’s unclear what caused the injury, as there wasn’t a play from Friday’s 5-4 shootout win over the Dallas Stars which stood out as causing an injury for Landeskog. He also played all three periods of regulation, and while he didn’t play in overtime, he’s rarely played in overtime this season, with a grand total of 2:46 minutes past regulation.

The Avalanche have yet to specify Landeskog’s injury, as they’ve just referred to it as a lower-body injury. There could be some concern that it’s related to the knee injury which kept him out for the better part of three seasons from 2022 to 2025, but there is currently no indication that’s the case. He missed 14 games heading into the Olympic break, but with an upper-body injury, so it’s not related to his current injury.

There also isn’t a confirmed timeline for return for Landeskog beyond it being evaluated on a week-to-week basis. That likely means he’s going to miss at least the next week or two of action, and could extend beyond that and into the playoffs depending on the severity of it.

Landeskog has been one of the bigger stories of the season with his return from a knee injury which kept him out of the game for three years. He hasn’t scored at the rate usually expected from him with just nine goals and 20 assists for 29 points in 47 games, a step back was expected for the 33-year-old after three years away. He did step up during the Olympics with two goals and two assists for four points in five games.

Nazem Kadri will replace Landeskog in the lineup on Sunday, as he’s expected to make the debut of his second stint with the Avalanche after the team acquired him from the Calgary Flames on Friday. Kadri had 12 goals and 29 assists for 41 points in 61 games with the Flames before the trade.
