Leon Draisaitl appears to be going the extra mile in his efforts get healthy in time for the postseason.

According to Sky Sport’s Ben Heckner, the Edmonton Oilers‘ superstar is currently in Munich, Germany receiving treatment for his lower-body injury from renowned sports doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt.

On Saturday, Draisaitl gave a brief interview during a television broadcast for a Bayern Munich soccer match, in which he provided an update on his recovery timeline.

“It will definitely take a few weeks,” Draisaitl said. “I hope we go far enough so I can help the team again.”

Draisaitl, 30, has already been ruled out for the remainder of the regular season after suffering a lower-body during the Oilers’ 3-1 win over the Nashville Predators on March 15th. The injury occured when Draisaitl took a hard hit from Predators’ forward Ozzy Wiesblatt in front of Nashville’s bench.

Dr. Muller-Wohlfahrt is best known as Bayern Munich’s team physician from 1977 to 2015, and then from 2017 to 2020. He was also the German national men’s soccer team’s physician from 1995 to 2018. Outside of his work in soccer, Muller-Wohlfahrt most famously treated gold-medal winning sprinter Usain Bolt ahead of the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games.

With Draisaitl’s regular season officially over, he will finish with 35 goals and 62 assists for 97 points in 65 games played. Edmonton is certainly hoping last season’s “Rocket” Richard Trophy winner, who himself hails from Cologne, Germany, can get the treatment he needs in his home country to return for the playoffs.

The Oilers, for their own part, still have work to do to make sure Draisaitl has a postseason to which he can return. Their 77 points through 70 games has them in second place in the Pacific Division, but just five points above the cutline in the Western Conference playoff picture.
