Oilers’ Leon Draisaitl to miss rest of 2025-26 regular season

The Edmonton Oilers will have to complete their push for the playoffs without one of their world-class forwards.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the team announced that Leon Draisaitl will miss the remainder of the regular season with a lower-body injury.

Draisaitl, 30, suffered the injury during Edmonton’s 3-1 win over the Nashville Predators on Sunday, March 15th. In the first period, Draisaitl took a hard hit from Predators forward Ozzy Wiesblatt, which caused him to awkwardly collide into the boards in front of the Nashville bench. He then gingerly walked to the dressing room and missed the rest of the game.

The German national was having another prolific offensive season, with 35 goals and 62 assists for 97 points in 65 games. He currently sits fourth in the NHL in scoring behind teammate Connor McDavid, Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon, and Tampa Bay Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov. With his regular season officially shut down, Draisaitl’s streak of four consecutive 100-point campaigns will come to an end.
Initially selected third overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Draisaitl broke out as a superstar in 2018-19 with 50 goals and 55 assists for 105 points. In the 2019-20 season he won the Hart Trophy as the league’s most valuable player and the Art Ross Trophy as the league’s highest scorer. In 2024-25, he won the Maurice Richard Trophy as the league’s leading goal scorer.
With 75 points in 68 games, the Oilers sit in third place in the Pacific Division. According to Money Puck, they have an 80.2% chance of making the playoffs, although Draisaitl’s absence should probably shave a couple percentage points off that number. The Seattle Kraken, Los Angeles Kings, and San Jose Sharks are all within five points of Edmonton.
The Oilers host the Sharks on Tuesday before welcoming the Florida Panthers on Thursday.
