The Capitals will return to Lindgren between the pipes on Thursday after the team recorded their first win in their previous outing with Logan Thompson in net. Liljegren will make his season debut on Wednesday, sending Conor Timmins to the press box as a healthy scratch. The 25-year-old Liljegren tied a career-high last season with 23 points (3G / 20A) in 55 games.

Holl has not played an AHL game since the 2017-18 season, a trend that will continue, at least for the time being, after being recalled again by the Red Wings. The 32-year-old Holl picked up an assist and two PIMs in two games with the Red Wings this season.

After a brief two-game appearance, Justin Holl has been reassigned to Grand Rapids (AHL) after picking up an assist and two PIMs with the Red Wings. The 32-year-old defensemen will return to Grand Rapids likely as a paper move and is expected to return to Detroit for their game on Thursday. If he does appear in a game for Grand Rapids, it will be his first AHL experience since 2017-18.

With Matt Roy expected to miss a "decent amount of time", Dylan McIlrath will step into the Capitals lineup and make his season debut on Tuesday vs. Vegas. The 32-year-old is entering his ninth NHL season but has only appeared in 75 career games across that span, picking up seven points and 133 PIMs.

Thompson will make his Capitals debut on Tuesday against his former team, the Vegas Golden Knights. The 27-year-old Thompson spent his first three seasons with the Golden Knights, posting a solid 2.67 GAA and .912 SV% in 103 appearances (56-32-11). This season, he will likely split time between the pipes in Washington with fellow undrafted netminder, Charlie Lindgren.

Matt Rempe will be a healthy scratch on Monday, allowing Brodzinski to draw back into the lineup. In the Rangers' season opener, Brodzinski played 9:52 time-on-ice and registering one assist. The 31-year-old Brodzinski, typically an AHL standout, played a career high 57 games with the Rangers last season, tallying 19 points (6G / 13A).

Roy exited Saturday's season opener for the Capitals after playing only 8:39 time-on-ice. The 29-year-old Roy signed a six-year contract with the Capitals in the offseason after spending the first six seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Kings.

The Capitals did not provide much of an update on Roy's status post-game other than to say he's "out, lower-body." Expect more clarity on Roy's timeline before Tuesday's game vs. the Golden Knights.

Holl was recalled from Grand Rapids (AHL) this morning and is expected to make his season debut in place of Erik Gustafsson (healthy scratch). Holl played in just 38 games a season ago, tallying eight assists, 14 SOG and 59 hits.

Brodzinski tallied one assist in 9:52 TOI in his season debut but will be replaced by Matt Rempe in the lineup on Saturday.

With Jeff Petry getting hurt in the Red Wings' season opener, Holl returns to the roster. It's unclear if Holl or Albert Johansson will draw into the Red Wings' lineup vs. the Predators.

Noah Juulsen will draw into the lineup on Friday against the Philadelphia Flyers to replace Desharnais. The 28-year-old Desharnais, in his first season with the Canucks, played 13:11 in their season opener, recording four penalty minutes and a -2 plus/minus.

After parting ways with Darcy Kuemper in the offseason, Lindgren has taken over the reins, with Logan Thompson, of the crease for the Washington Capitals. The 30-year-old Lindgren will start the season opener for the Capitals against a New Jersey Devils squad already playing their fourth game of the season. Lindgren had stretches of inconsistency last season but was mostly impressive, posting a 2.67 GAA, .911 SV%, and six shutouts in 50 games (25-16-7). Kuemper had only appeared in 60 total games before last season and is likely to have a heavier workload once again.

Jenner is expected to miss the next 5-6 months as he rehabs from the successful shoulder surgery that he underwent on Wednesday. The 31-year-old Blue Jackets' captain will hope to return by seasons end while his absence will create a massive hole in their lineup after he had 22 goals, 35 points and 155 SOG in 58 games in 2023-24. Expect Sean Monahan and Adam Fantilli to lock down top-six roles while he recovers.

Thompson has been away from the team since Monday due to personal reasons but will return to practice on Friday ahead of their season opener on Saturday against the New Jersey Devils. Thompson is expected to share the crease with Charlie Lindgren this season, his first with the Capitals.

Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell said that Jenner is going to be out "a while" and is going to see another specialist next week. The team should release a more detailed timetable following that appointment. Jenner battled injuries last season but still managed 35 points (22G / 13A) in 58 games. In an effort to replace Jenner, the Blue Jackets signed Kevin Labanc on Sunday.

It's unclear when Thompson is expected to re-join the Capitals, but their season doesn't open until Saturday, so it's safe to assume he'll be available for their opener. Thompson is expected to share the crease with Charlie Lindgren this season, his first with the Capitals.
