The Oilers have re-signed Kailer Yamamoto to a one-year contract.

Yamamoto had a terrific 27-game stretch in 2020 but failed to match that production in his first full season in 2021. Yamamoto scored just eight goals and 13 assists (21 points) in 52 games last year, playing almost exclusively with Leon Draisaitl. The lack of production led to Yamamoto getting a one-year bridge deal at $1.175M to prove he can bounce back before the Oilers commit to him with big dollars on a longer-term deal.

The Rangers have acquired Nick DeSimone and '22 4th round pick from the Golden Knights for Brett Howden.

DeSimone was sent to the Golden Knights as a part of the Mattias Janmark trade last April. The 26-year-old has spent his entire pro career in the AHL, finishing last season with no goals and 11 assists in 22 games. Look for him to open the 2021-22 season in the AHL.

Schmaltz (head) is expected to miss the final two games of the season.

Schmaltz was struck in the head by a puck in warmups on Saturday and has missed the last two games. Schmaltz did not travel to San Jose, so it looks like he'll miss the final two games of the 2021 season. The Coyotes are pretty much out of the playoff hunt, so we likely won't see Schmaltz until the 2021-22 season.
