The Sharks' goalie-of-the-future, Yaroslav Askarov, has struggled at times this season, and the team has been pleased with the support provided by counterpart Alex Nedeljkovic, who has been rewarded with a two-year contract extension. The 30-year-old Nedeljkovic is boasting his most consistent campaign in several seasons, with a serviceable 2.83 GAA and .902 SV% in 26 appearances (11-9-2).

San Jose has signed Kiefer Sherwood to a five-year extension worth $5.75 million AAV. ($28.75M total).

The Sharks acquired Sherwood in a trade earlier this season and have ensured he will be with the team for the foreseeable future after signing him to a lucrative five-year extension. The 30-year-old Sherwood has only played five games with the Sharks so far, scoring two points (1G / 1A) and recording 28 hits. He has become a reliable power forward in recent years, tallying 92 points (47G / 45A), 378 shots, and 934 hits in 195 games since the 2023-24 season.

Askarov struggled in his previous outing, but was able to snap a four-game losing skid (0-3-1), saving 20 of 24 shots (.833 SV%) in a 5-4 win over the Edmonton Oilers. The 23-year-old rookie goalie has faced a myriad of adversity in recent weeks, allowing three or more goals in all but one of his last 21 outings (9-10-1) while posting an ugly 4.02 GAA and .868 SV%. The Sharks enter the action on Tuesday as +115 home underdogs against a Montreal Canadiens team that has scored three or more goals in eight straight games (5-1-2).

Gaudette has yet to play since the Sharks have returned from the Olympic break, but he will re-enter the lineup on Tuesday against the Montreal Canadiens, replacing Pavol Regenda. The 29-year-old Gaudette is averaging 11:47 time-on-ice and has 20 points (13G / 7) in 45 games this season.

The 23-year-old Askarov battled some adversity heading into the break and hopes the extended rest can help him return to form. Since the beginning of December, Askarov has allowed fewer than three goals only once in 19 appearances (8-9-1), posting an ugly 4.07 GAA and .868 SV%. The Sharks enter Thursday's contest as -123 home favourites against a Flames team that already had the least potent offence in the NHL (2.54 GF / GP) and is now without Jonathan Huberdeau (hip) for the remainder of the season.

Regenda was impressive while representing Team Slovakia in their fourth-place finish at the Olympics, scoring five points (3G / 2A) in six games, but he will be scratch by the Sharks when they return to action on Thursday against the Calgary Flames. The 26-year-old Regenda has nine points (8G / 1A) in 16 games with the Sharks this season.

Reaves (upper-body) has been activated from IR.

Reaves did not play the last couple of games for the Sharks before the Olympic Break due to an upper-body injury, but he will be eligible to return to the lineup on Thursday against the Calgary Flames. The 39-year-old Reaves has three goals, 32 penalty minutes, and 142 hits in 46 games this season.

Dickinson is expected to be a healthy scratch in Colorado on Wednesday.

John Klingberg will return from a one-game absence, sending Dickinson to the press box as a healthy scratch on Wednesday against the Colorado Avalanche. The 19-year-old Dickinson is averaging 15:49 time-on-ice and has nine points (1G / 8A) in 45 games this season.

Sam Dickinson will be a healthy scratch on Wednesday, allowing Klingberg to re-enter the lineup against the Colorado Avalanche. Klingberg was scratched several times earlier this season, but has been a regular over the past two months. His omission from the lineup on Monday was the first time he was a healthy scratch since November 26th. The 33-year-old Swedish defenseman has just four points (2G / 2A) in his last 15 games.
