Detroit Red Wings News

Cossa has been reassigned to Grand Rapids (AHL).

With John Gibson returning from an upper-body injury, the Red Wings have reassigned Cossa to the AHL. Cossa, the 15th-overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, has performed remarkably well at the AHL level this season, registering a 1.99 GAA and .927 SV% in 31 games (24-4-3) with Grand Rapids.

Gibson (upper-body) returned to Detroit's practice on Thursday.

Gibson exited Monday's 4-2 win over the Nashville Predators in the first intermission due to an upper-body injury and did not suit up for Wednesday's game against the Vegas Golden Knights. It's uncertain if Gibson will be ready for Friday's game against the Florida Panthers, but his presence at practice on Thursday is an encouraging sign. The 32-year-old Gibson has only lost six of his last 25 games (19-5-1), posting an impressive 2.06 GAA and .925 SV%, leading the Red Wings to a playoff spot over the past two months.

John Gibson
Larkin (upper-body) missed practice on Thursday.

Larkin was the victim of a vicious cross-check late in the third period of Wednesday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights and had difficulty regaining composure and exiting the ice, but seemingly avoided major repercussions after returning to the ice in overtime. That said, the 29-year-old Larkin was absent from practice on Thursday, and his status is unclear heading into Friday's game against the Florida Panthers.

Gibson (upper-body) is out vs. Vegas and considered day-to-day.

Gibson exited Monday's 4-2 win over the Nashville Predators in the first intermission due to an upper-body injury and will remain sidelined on Wednesday, allowing Cam Talbot to start against the Vegas Golden Knights. The 32-year-old Gibson has only lost six of his last 25 games (19-5-1), posting an impressive 2.06 GAA and .925 SV%, leading the Red Wings to a playoff spot over the past two months. The Red Wings have recalled Sebastian Cossa from Grand Rapids (AHL) in a corresponding move.

Talbot will start vs. Vegas on Wednesday.

With John Gibson (upper body) unavailable, Talbot will tend the twine on Wednesday against the Vegas Golden Knights. The 38-year-old Talbot was excellent in relief of Gibson in Monday's 4-2 win over the Nashville Predators, saving 18 of 19 shots (.947 SV%) in two periods of play. That said, he had a poor showing in his most recent start, allowing five goals on 36 shots (.861 SV%) in a 5-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, and has lost four straight starts (0-3-1). The Red Wings enter Wednesday's contest as -124 home favourites against a Golden Knights team on a three-game losing streak (0-3-0).

Gibson (upper-body) is unlikely to return to Monday's game vs. Nashville.

Gibson was replaced by Cam Talbot, who stands to see an increase workload if Gibson misses any time. The 32-year-old Gibson has only lost six of his last 25 games (19-5-1), posting an impressive 2.06 GAA and .925 SV%, leading the Red Wings to a playoff spot over the past two months. An update should be provided on Gibson following the game.

John Gibson
Gibson will start in Nashville on Monday.

After a rocky start to his Red Wings tenure, Gibson has been tremendous between the pipes and picked up where he left off before the Olympic break, saving 26 of 27 shots (.963 SV%) in his most recent outing, a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators. The 32-year-old goalie has only lost six of his last 25 games (19-5-1), posting an impressive 2.06 GAA and .925 SV%. The Red Wings enter Monday's contest as slight -103 road underdogs against the Nashville Predators.

The Red Wings activated Edvinsson (lower-body) off injured reserve on Thursday.

Edvinsson will draw back into Detroit's lineup after sitting out their last few games before the break. The 22-year-old Swedish defenseman has emerged as an effective top-pair defenseman for the Red Wings. He is averaging 22:35 time-on-ice and has 17 points (6G / 11A) in 48 games this season.

Gibson will start in Ottawa on Thursday.

Gibson will unsurprisingly get the nod between the pipes when the Red Wings return from the Olympic break on Thursday. Gibson entered the break on a sour note, allowing three goals on 24 shots in a 4-1 loss in Utah on February 4th. The 13-year-veteran owns a 22-12-2 record to go along with a .904 SV% on the season. Gibson and the Wings enter action on Thursday at +130 on the money line.

John Gibson
Larkin (Olympics) is expected to return and play vs. Ottawa on Thursday.

Larkin concluded his participation at the Olympics with a Gold Medal victory for the USA on Sunday and is anticipating playing when the Red Wings return to action on Thursday against the Ottawa Senators. The 29-year-old Larkin was impactful at the Olympics, playing an integral middle-six role and scoring three points (2G/1A) in six games. Larkin has 51 points (26G / 25A) in 58 games this season and will look to continue his near point-per-game pace as the Red Wings continue their battle for playoff positioning.

Gibson led the Red Wings out for warmups and will start in Utah on Wednesday.

Gibson will get the nod for 37th time this season when the Red Wings travel to Utah on Wednesday. Gibson pitched a shutout in his last start, denying all 21 shots he faced in a 2-0 win in Colorado on Monday. The 13-year-veteran carries a 22-11-2 record and a .905 SV% into Wednesday night's matchup, where the Red Wings enter action at +115 on the money line.

Gibson will start vs. Colorado on Monday.

Gibson, the hottest goalie in the NHL over the previous two months, finds himself on a three-game losing streak (0-2-1), posting a 3.36 GAA and .852 SV%. That said, the 32-year-old Gibson still sports an impressive 2.16 GAA and .923 SV% in his last 22 games (17-4-1). The Red Wings enter Monday's contest as +169 road underdogs against a Colorado Avalanche team that handily defeated them 5-0 on Saturday.
