After making his first six career starts with the Maple Leafs in 2024-25, Dennis Hildeby has earned himself a three-year contract extension worth $841,667 AAV. The 24-year-old is expected to start 2025-26 with the Toronto Marlies (AHL) as Toronto's third goalie on the depth chart after posting a lacklustre 3-3-0 record, .878 SV% and 3.33 GAA with the Maple Leafs last season.

Hildeby was unsuccessful in Wednesday's 5-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, allowing four goals on 18 shots (.778 SV%), and has been assigned to the Toronto Marlies (AHL). The Maple Leafs have recalled Matt Murray in a corresponding move.

The Maple Leafs have won three straight and will switch to Hildeby between the pipes on Wednesday against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Hildeby has not played since January 11th, when he allowed three goals on 18 shots (.833 SV%) in a 3-0 loss to the Vancouver Canucks. The 23-year-old netminder has a 3.18 GAA and .884 SV% in five games (3-2-0). The Maple Leafs enter Wednesday's contest as -196 home favorites against a Blue Jackets club that suffered their first regulation loss in eight games (6-1-1) in Monday's 3-1 loss to the New York Islanders.

Matt Murray was sent down to the Marlies (AHL), swapping places with Hildeby, who will return to backup duties behind Joseph Woll for the Maple Leafs. The 23-year-old Hildeby has a solid 2.42 GAA and .916 SV% in eight games with the Marlies (4-2-2) but has not seen that success transfer to the NHL level, where he has a 3.68 GAA and .875 SV% in three games (2-1-0).

Hildeby was recalled last week when Anthony Stolarz suffered a lower-body injury. Stolarz remains sidelined but Hildeby has been assigned to the Marlies (AHL), swapping placed with Matt Murray. The 23-year-old Hildeby played for the Maple Leafs on Sunday, saving 24 of 27 shots (.889 SV%) in a 5-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Stolarz suffered a lower-body injury in Thursday's game against the Anaheim Ducks and did not return. There has not been a concrete update on Stolarz yet but Hildeby's call-up likely indicates that he will not be ready for the Maple Leafs' upcoming game on Saturday. The 23-year-old Hildeby has a 2.73 GAA and .897 SV% in six games (2-2-2) with the Toronto Marlies (AHL) this season.

Hildeby was called up prior to the season-opening game for the Maple Leafs after Joseph Woll went out of the lineup with a lower-body injury. The 23-year-old Hildeby was limited to action in back-to-back contests, posting mixed results with a 4.03 GAA and .869 SV% in two outings (1-1-0).

On the back end of a back-to-back, with Joseph Woll (lower body) not ready to make his return, the Maple Leafs will turn to Hildeby for his second start of the season. The 23-year-old Hildeby played the back end of a back-to-back earlier this season and recorded a victory, posting a solid 2.02 GAA and .913 SV%. The Maple Leafs enter action on Tuesday as -192 road favorites against a Columbus Blue Jackets with a 2-3-0 record.
