A depth player is sticking around Northern California for a couple more years.

On Friday, San Jose Sharks general manager Mike Grier announced that the team has re-signed forward Ty Dellandrea to a two-year contract extension. The deal, set to kick in next season, carries an AAV of $1.625 million.

Grier noted that Dellandrea has been an important member of the Sharks since joining the team in 2024.

“Ty has been a consistent performer at both ends of the ice and a big part of our locker room and the culture we’re building,” Grier said in a release. “We are excited to keep him in San Jose.”

It’s a slight raise for the Port Perry, Ont. native. He’s in the final season of his two-year contract that he signed in July 2024, which has a cap hit of $1.3 million.

Dellandrea was traded to the Sharks by the Dallas Stars for a 2025 fourth-round pick in June 2024. He hasn’t quite been the scoring threat that he was in his junior days, but has been a hard-working member of San Jose’s bottom six.

In 42 games this year, he scored two goals and nine assists for 11 points, last putting his name on the scoresheet on Dec. 18. The 25-year-old has been out of action with a lower-body injury since early January. Yet, San Jose has managed to stay afloat in the race for a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.

In 261 NHL regular-season affairs, Dellanarea has scored 17 goals and 44 assists for 61 points. He’s also posted four goals in 22 Stanley Cup Playoff games, all coming with the Stars.

The Sharks (31-26-6) are fourth in the Pacific Division, holding onto the second Wild Card position in the West.
