A young prospect is going to stay near the nation’s capital for the next couple of years.

On Tuesday, Ottawa Senators general manager Steve Staios announced that the team has re-signed forward Stephen Halliday to a two-year contract extension. The deal, set to begin next season, will carry an AAV of $1.075 million through the 2027-28 campaign.

In a statement, Staios noted that Halliday’s growth has been promising and that he has a bright future with the organization.

“Stephen has shown great growth in his game. He is committed to his craft and has a passion for the game,” Staios said. “We’re pleased to have him signed and excited about what the future brings.”

Halliday is at the end of his two-year, entry-level contract with the Senators, which he signed in March 2024. That deal carries an AAV of $1.2 million, along with a minor-league salary of $83,000.

After spending the first year-plus of his pro career with Ottawa’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Belleville Senators, the Ajax, Ont. native saw considerable time with the big club during the 2025-26 season. Along with making his NHL debut on Nov. 20, he scored his first big-league goal on Jan. 22 against the Nashville Predators. A few days later, he notched three points against the Vegas Golden Knights.

In 30 total appearances with the Sens, the 23-year-old scored four goals and seven assists for 11 points, with an even plus/minus while averaging 8:31 of ice time per game. Halliday also played 29 games with Belleville, scoring two goals and 27 assists for 29 points. It was a little off the pace after his impressive performance in 2024-25, where the former Ohio State Buckeye scored 19 goals and 51 points in 71 games.

In 110 regular-season games with the Baby Sens, Halliday has scored 21 goals and 64 assists for 85 points, with another nine points in seven Calder Cup Playoff games.
