Nashville Predators’ forward Ryan O’Reilly left Tuesday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets after taking a stick near the eye in the third period.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the team released a statement following the game:

“For those who are concerned about Ryan O’Reilly, we expect that he is going to be OK. He is flying home with the team from Columbus tonight and will be evaluated by our medical team in Nashville. We expect to have an update on his playing status sometime Thursday,” the team said.

O’Reilly finished the game with one goal, three shots and a minus-one rating in 18:36 of ice time. Through 61 games, the 35-year-old forward has 22 goals and 37 assists for 59 points.

Now in his 17th NHL season, O’Reilly, a native of Clinton, Ont., has 325 goals and 558 assists for 883 points in 1,213 career regular-season games with the Predators, Toronto Maple Leafs, St. Louis Blues, Buffalo Sabres and Colorado Avalanche.

O’Reilly has also played in 81 career playoff games, where he’s recorded 26 goals and 41 assists for 67 points. He led the Blues to their first Stanley Cup championship in 2019, where he scored eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points. His performance that spring won him the 2019 Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.

O’Reilly also won the Selke Trophy in 2019, awarded to the forward who demonstrates the most skill on the defensive side of the puck.
