It seems to be that a former prospect is going to miss more time due to injury.

On Tuesday, the Montreal Canadiens announced that forward Kirby Dach is going to be out for two to four weeks with an upper-body injury.

Dach suffered the injury during Sunday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks. Early in the contest, when going for the puck along the boards, Dach was met with a hit from Ducks forward Jeffrey Viel. The check left Dach in considerable pain, as he was slow to get up before returning to the Montreal bench. The Calgary native didn’t return to the game, with the team revealing his status during the first intermission.

Dach’s stat line saw him log just 1:13 of ice time across two shifts.

The injury is another on a laundry list of ailments that have plagued the former first-round pick for his entire career. Back in November, he suffered a fractured foot that kept him out for over two months. That came after a separate lower-body injury that forced him to miss three games back in October.

Despite being part of an NHL roster since being drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2019, Dach has hardly come close to playing a full 82-game season. Injuries have followed the 25-year-old throughout his career, and his 70 appearances during the 2021-22 season remains a career high. Last February, Dach underwent knee surgery that took him out for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. That came after playing in just two games the year before, as a torn ACL and MCL ended his campaign prematurely.

In the 32 games Dach has played in 2025-26, he has scored eight goals and six assists for 14 points.

The Canadiens (36-20-10) are third in the Atlantic Division, six points back of the Buffalo Sabres for first place. Montreal is next scheduled to face the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night.
