Golden Knights’ Mark Stone leaves game with upper-body injury

Mark Stone just can’t avoid the injury bug, as the Vegas Golden Knights captain left Sunday’s 5-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins due to an upper-body injury, according to Golden Knights’ head coach Bruce Cassidy.
No update on Mark Stone, from Bruce Cassidy. "I assume he'll be on the plane with us to Buffalo, and I'll probably have a better update tomorrow. Upper body is all I was told, and we'll see where that lands."
“I assume he’ll be on the plane with us to Buffalo, and I’ll probably have a better update tomorrow,” Cassidy told the media after the loss. “Upper body is all I was told, and we’ll see where that lands.”
Stone played the entirety of the first period of Sunday’s game, but in his final shift, he received a cross-check from Kris Letang in the upper-body and immediately went to the bench and down the tunnel. He did not return for the second period, but the Golden Knights did not provide an update on their captain until Cassidy’s post-game media availablility.
The Golden Knights play next on Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres, but will practice on Monday, so Cassidy will likely have an update on Stone’s injury then. Stone is still expected to travel with the team as they wrap up their five-game road trip.
Stone has already missed 16 games this season due to a wrist injury. Despite that, he’s still had one of his healthier seasons in recent years, and has been stellar with 21 goals and 39 assists for 60 points in 43 games. His 1.4 points per game this season is sixth in the league.
Should Stone end up missing Tuesday’s game against the Sabres, Alexander Holtz was the lone forward healthy scratch on Sunday and will likely draw into the lineup. Holtz has three goals and six assists for nine points in 28 games this season.
The Golden Knights currently sit in first in the Pacific Division with a 28-18-14 record. They’ll look to bounce back from back-to-back losses when they visit Buffalo on Tuesday at 4 p.m. PT.
