An incredible season for one of the game’s brightest stars has led to a milestone.

Thanks to a three-point night against the Winnipeg Jets in the team’s final game of the 2025-26 season on Thursday night, Macklin Celebrini broke Joe Thornton’s 19-year record for most points in a single season as a member of the San Jose Sharks, registering the 115th point of his campaign.

Celebrini started the game off with a pair of assists in the opening period, tying the Hall of Famer. Then, just over a minute into the third period, the 19-year-old scored to place his name above Jumbo Joe.

With the performance, Celebrini scored 45 goals, which places him second in San Jose history for tallies in a single season, trailing only Jonatan Cheechoo’s Rocket Richard Trophy-winning 56 goals during the 2005-06 campaign. The two helpers gave the North Vancouver native 70 points on the year, good for the fourth-most in one season with San Jose. Thornton and former Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson are the only two players sitting above Celebrini on that list.

With 115 points, Celebrini will finish the season fourth in the NHL in scoring.

In case you didn’t catch the note earlier, Thornton’s 114-point season, which saw him notch a franchise-record 92 assists, came during the 2006-07 season. That campaign started when Celebrini was a whole three months old.

Now, it is worth mentioning that Thornton had an even better output the season before. In 2005-06, the St. Thomas, Ont. native scored 29 goals and 96 assists for 125 points. However, since he started the season with the Boston Bruins and was traded to San Jose in November 2005, the Sharks only recognize Thornton’s 92 points while wearing teal as part of their record books. Thornton went on to win the Art Ross and Hart Trophies that season.

Celebrini’s sensational performance this season helped the Sharks remain competitive in the Western Conference, with the team right in the thick of the Wild Card race for most of the season. While the team failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the seventh year in a row, Celebrini is leading a young core to hopefully bring brighter days to Northern California.

In 152 career games with the Sharks, Celebrini now has 70 goals and 108 assists for 178 points.
