One of the better blueliners in the NHL might’ve suffered a season-ending injury.

When speaking to the media on Thursday, Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice revealed that defenseman Seth Jones is out with a broken foot that he sustained during the team’s game on Wednesday night against the Montreal Canadiens.

Maurice admired Jones’ courage as he finished out the game despite the ailment. However, the team won’t have an idea of the severity of the injury until the Panthers finish their five-game road trip, which concludes this Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

“He gutted it out,” Maurice said. “We’ll get it looked at when we get back.”

Even with a broken foot, Jones logged 29:27 of ice time against the Habs, picking up an assist in a 4-3 shootout loss.

Florida has four games left in the 2025-26 season, and with the type of injury and the Panthers having nothing to play for, it’s very likely that Jones will not play the rest of the year.

The injury is the icing on the cake for a season to forget in Sunrise. After winning back-to-back Stanley Cups, the Panthers have struggled to stay healthy. After captain Aleksander Barkov suffered a knee injury that effectively ended his season before it even got started, Florida has endured countless man-games lost. Along with Matthew Tkachuk missing the first few months while recovering from injury, seemingly everyone from Brad Marchand and Sam Reinhart to Aaron Ekblad and Anton Lundell has been knocked out for the rest of the season.

Jones was a prominent member of that list. He missed 26 games after getting hurt against the New York Rangers at the Winter Classic in January. In the 52 games he has played in, the Texas native has scored seven goals and 25 assists for 32 points.
