Nathan MacKinnon made history Monday night, becoming the 70th player in NHL history to record 1,100 career NHL regular-season points as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Washington Capitals 5-2.

The Avalanche center achieved the feat with just over three minutes to go in the third period. MacKinnon, who already had a goal and assist, took a feed from Martin Necas and buried his second of the game to give Colorado a 5-2 lead and give the star forward his 1,100th career regular-season point.

MacKinnon, 30, now has 38 goals and 47 assists for 85 points in 47 games this season, which leads the NHL in goals and is tied for the most points. Now in his 13th NHL season, MacKinnon has 405 goals and 695 assists for 1,100 total points in 917 career regular-season games.

Last season, MacKinnon recorded his 1,000th career regular-season point in a March contest against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Taken No. 1 overall by the Avalanche in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, MacKinnon won the Calder Trophy for Rookie of the Year, and since then, he’s won the Hart Trophy, the Ted Lindsay Award, the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, and helped Colorado win the Stanley Cup in 2022.

In 95 career playoff games, MacKinnon has recorded 55 goals and 70 assists for 125 points.

In 2012-13, MacKinnon was on the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads, scoring 32 goals and 43 assists for 75 points in 44 games. He went on to score 11 goals and 33 points in 17 playoff games, helping the Mooseheads win a league championship, then leading them to a Memorial Cup championship.
