Sorokin allowed one goal on 27 shots in the Islanders' loss to the Coyotes on Thursday. Despite the loss, Sorokin has been outstanding this season, going 6-4-0 with a 2.09 GAA and .936 SV% in 11 games (10 starts). Tonight he's expected to face the Blue Jackets, who are going to be without Zach Werenski, Jakub Voracek, Nick Blankenburg, Sean Kuraly, Adam Boqvist, and Erik Gudbranson.

He takes on a struggling Ottawa Senators team that has lost six straight contests.

He takes on the Arizona Coyotes who have surprisingly won three of their last four games after a 4-1 win over Buffalo their last time out.

Matt Luff is out 10-12 weeks after undergoing wrist-surgery Wednesday.

Luff only managed 8:43 TOI before being forced to leave the Red Wings' previous contest vs. the Canadiens due to an incredibly dangerous boarding hit from rookie Juraj Slafkovsky. Luff has one goal through seven games after receiving a promotion to the Red Wings after a few games with Grand Rapids this season. He is out for 10-12 weeks following wrist surgery Wednesday.

With Mackenzie Blackwood now on the injured reserve, the Devils' crease is now Vanecek's alone, as he holds a 5-1-0 record with a .908 SV% and 2.20 GAA. He takes on the Calgary Flames who are on the second of a back-to-back and are on a downward spiral after losing their fifth straight game in overtime 4-3 Monday to NYI.

Ondrej Palat had groin surgery and will be out 8-10 weeks

Palat undergoing groin surgery is a tough loss for the Devils after it was announced he would be out 8-10 weeks due to recovery. Since being acquired in the offseason by the Devils, the 31-year-old had three goals off eight shots in six games played while averaging 18:43 ATOI.

Semyon Varlamov was in the starter's crease at the Islanders' morning skate but Sorokin was the first goalie off, so expect Sorokin to start vs. the Flames. Sorokin allowed two goals on 34 shots (.941 SV%) in the Islanders' win in St. Louis last Thursday. Sorokin is on a four-game winning streak while stopping 127 of 132 shots (.962 SV%) and one shutout.

Sorokin stopped 21 of 22 shots (.955 SV%) in a 3-1 win over Chicago his last time out to earn his third straight victory. He has been his usual exceptional self this season, posting a .935 SV% and 2.03 GAA while going 4-3-0. He faces off against St.Louis, who finds themselves of a current five game losing streak.

Matt Martin will be back in the Islanders' lineup Thursday vs. St. Louis

Martin was a healthy scratch for the first time this season Tuesday but will draw back in the lineup Wednesday replacing Ross Johnston. Through nine games this season, the 33-year-old has four points (2g/2A) and is a +2 plus/minus while only playing 9:51 ATOI per game.

Ethan Bear will make his Vancouver debut Tuesday vs. the Devils

Bear along with Lane Pederson was traded from the Hurricanes to the Canucks last week for a fifth-round pick. He will make his Vancouver debut Tuesday for his third team in five NHL seasons. In 190 career games, he has 13 goals and 47 points along with 77 PIMs.

Martin will miss his first game of the 2022-23 season Tuesday as the Islanders head to Chicago. He is expected to join the team later in the week so is considered day-to-day for the time being. In nine games this season, the grinder has four points (2G/2A) and is a +2 rating while occupying the Islanders' bottom six.
