Varlamov allowed one goal on 25 shots in Colorado’s win over the Rangers on Thursday. It was a great outing for Varlamov, who had allowed a combined 10 goals in his previous three games. Despite a strong outing on Tuesday, Varly is still difficult to trust, especially vs. Minnesota. In his first start against the Wild, Varlamov allowed five goals in a 5-4 loss.

It hasn’t exactly been pretty for Varly, but the wins are all that matter to Patrick Roy. Varlamov will start in Brooklyn tonight, he is 2-2-0 with a 2.03 GAA and .927 SV% on the road this season.
Varlamov was pulled after allowing three goals on 15 shots in the Avs’ loss to the Senators on Wednesday. Despite the rough outing, the Avalanche will stick with Varlamov tonight vs. the Jets. In his first game back from injury, he stopped 20 of 21 in a win in Winnipeg, so the matchup shouldn’t scare you.
Varlamov made 20 saves on 21 shots in a win his return to the crease on Monday. Varlamov was struggling mightily before he got hurt and maybe some time off was just what he needed. Obviously one start doesn’t mean he is back and he will face a much stiffer test tonight with the Senators in town. Ottawa has won three in a row and have outscored their opponents 14-4 over that span.
Varlamov has been out since November 10th with a groin injury, but will return to the crease tonight. After posting a 3.26 GAA and .890 SV% in his first 10 games, he had fallen behind Reto Berra, but Berra has struggled in his last three games, so Varlamov could reclaim his job as the Avs’ No. 1 goalie with a couple of strong outings.
Pelech was a plus-1 with one shot in 13:19 in his NHL debut last Friday. He will come out of the lineup tonight in favour of Marek Zidlicky.
Schenn has just one goal in his last eight games and only seven points (5G / 2A) in 15 games this season. The Flyers will get Pierre Edouard Bellemare back tonight, which is why Schenn comes out. Expect him to be back in the lineup next week.
Varlamov suffered a groin injury in Tuesday’s morning skate and is out day-to-day with the injury. Varlamov has played second fiddle to Reto Berra this season, so it is not as big of a loss as it has been in the past. With Varlamov out, the Avalanche have recalled Calvin Pickard.
Palat left Saturday’s game with a lower-body injury after getting tangled up near the goal with Nino Niederreiter. Palat is expected to miss at least the next eight games and could miss up to 14 contests, based off of his 3-5 week timetable.
Pelech, 21, was a third round pick (65th overall) in 2012. Pelech has two goals and two assists in 14 games with Bridgeport this season. He is expected to replace Brian Strait and make his NHL debut on Tuesday.

After winning his second game of the season, Varlamov has dropped his last two starts while allowing a combined six goals on 57 shots (.895 SV%). Varlamov could make for a solid start tonight with at the Flames and their 24th ranked offence in town.
Varlamov allowed three goals on 26 shots in Colorado’s loss in Carolina on Friday. It was Varlamov’s second game in as many nights, so it wasn’t surprising to see him struggle vs. the Hurricanes. He has won just two of seven starts while posting a 3.36 GAA and .889 SV% this season.
Varlamov made 34 saves on 35 shots in the Avs’ win in Tampa Bay last night. After losing four of five and losing playing time to Reto Berra, Varlamov turned in a stellar performance last night and will go again tonight in Carolina. Starting him on back-to-back nights is risky, but it is nice to see Varlamov turn things around, at least for one game.
Varlamov allowed four goals on 36 shots in Colorado’s loss to the Blue Jackets on Saturday. Reno Berra started on Tuesday, but the Avs will go back to Varlamov tonight in Tampa Bay. Varlamov has struggled his way to a 1-3-1, 3.93 GAA and .869 SV% start to the season.
