New Jersey Devils News

Daws will start New Jersey's season finale in Boston on Tuesday.

Entering their final game of a disappointing 2025-26 season, the Devils will turn to Daws to tend the twine for the second consecutive game. The 25-year-old German goalie has spent most of the season in the AHL, but has been solid in very limited action with the Devils, saving 57 of 61 combined shots (.934 SV%) in two games (2-0-0). The Devils enter Tuesday's contest as +133 road underdogs against a Boston Bruins team that has clinched a playoff spot, but is still jockeying for positioning.

Rittich is in the starter's crease at the Islanders morning skate.

With Game 82 meaning seemingly nothing for New York, they will turn to backup netminder David Rittich as they take on Carolina on Tuesday. The 33-year-old veteran backup has had a mediocre first season in New York, with a 14-9-3 record, 2.78 GAA and .894 SV%. He will host the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday, who are expected to have a depleted lineup after securing their playoff spot vs. Ottawa in round one.

The Devils have assigned Lenni Hameenaho to Utica (AHL).

Hameenaho's first season in New Jersey looks to be over after the 21-year-old winger was assigned to Utica (AHL) on Monday. New Jersey's 2023 2nd round pick (58th overall) has enjoyed a solid first season with New Jersey despite occupying a bottom-six role, with two goals, eight points and 14 PIMs in 33 games played in 2025-26.

Allen will start Saturday in Detroit.

With Jacob Markstrom out for the rest of the season and Nico Daws confirmed to start on Sunday, it will be Jake Allen in net for the Devils on Saturday. Allen has given up three-plus goals in five straight outings, going 3-1-1 with a 3.35 GAA and .885 SV%. Tonight he'll face a desperate Red Wings team, who he has not faced this season, but Allen is 7-9-0 with a 2.58 GAA and .911 SV% on the road.

Vilen will make his NHL debut on Sunday vs. Ottawa.

Vilen was recalled from Utica (AHL) on Friday and will make his NHL debut on Sunday as the second half of New Jersey's back-to-back. The 23-year-old was the Devils 2025 5th round pick (129th overall) and he has spent the last three seasons in Utica, picking up four goals and 24 points in 59 games this season.

Daws will start vs. Ottawa on Sunday.

Daws was recalled on Friday from Utica (AHL) after it was announced Jacob Markstrom would be shut down for the remainder of the season due to injury and rest. It is Daws second call up of the season after he excelled in one appearance in October, where he backstopped the Devils to a victory behind a 31-save performance (.968 SV%). He takes on the Ottawa Senators, who are in the midst of a playoff battle for the final wildcard position.

Daws has been recalled from Utica (AHL).

Daws has been recalled to New Jersey for the 2nd time this season after the team was mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. The 25-year-old struggled with Utica (AHL) this season, with a 15-16-11 record, .891 SV% and 2.84 GAA but excelled during his one call up with New Jersey earlier this season, winning his only appearance with a .968 SV%. He is expected to get a start or two during New Jersey's final few games.

Allen will start vs. Pittsburgh on Thursday.

Exiting the Olympic break, there was a three-week stretch where Jacob Markstrom played every game for the Devils, but they have relied on Allen more steadily in recent weeks. The 35-year-old Allen saved 26 of 29 shots (.897 SV%) in his previous outing, but was on the losing end of a 4-3 shootout against the Montreal Canadiens. In his last five games (3-1-1), Allen has a 2.76 GAA and .904 SV%. The Devils enter Thursday's contest as slight -102 home underdogs against a Pittsburgh Penguins team that has scored five or more goals in four of their last five games (4-1-0).

Jake Allen
Hughes has been shut down for the remainder of the 2025-26 season to undergo a procedure.

Hughes missed 10 games earlier this season due to an injury, and will miss the final four as he prepares to undergo a procedure and get a head start on his off-season recovery. After scoring 47 points and and 44 points in his first two seasons, the 22-year-old Hughes didn't take the offensive leap that some were predicting, ending the 2025-26 campaign with 35 points (6G / 29A) in 68 games.

Allen led the Devils onto the ice for warmups.

Allen stopped 29 of 32 shots in the Devils' win over the Capitals on Thursday. He'll make a second straight start and will be looking for his fourth consecutive win tonight vs. the Canadiens. Allen has gone 4-2-0 with a 2.87 GAA and .904 SV% in six starts since the Olympic break. He draws a tough assignment on Saturday, as Montreal comes in riding a seven-game winning streak and have averaged 4.0 goals per game during that stretch.

Exiting the Olympic break, there was a three-week stretch where Jacob Markstrom played every game for the Devils, but they have relied on Allen more steadily in recent weeks, and he will return to the crease on Thursday against the Washington Capitals for the fifth time in the last 10 games. The 35-year-old Allen was serviceable in his most recent outing, saving 28 of 31 shots (.903 SV%) in a 5-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. He was excellent less than two weeks ago in a game against the Capitals, saving 26 of 27 shots (.963 SV%), but did not receive enough goal support in a 2-1 loss. The Devils enter Thursday's contest as slight -107 home favourites.

Gritsyuk (upper-body) will undergo surgery and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

Gritsyuk suffered an upper-body injury late in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Dallas Stars and has likely been ruled out for the remainder of the season. The 25-year-old first-year NHLer has eight points (4G / 4A) in his last 10 games, giving him 31 points (13G / 18A) through 66 games this season.

Rodrigues will have surgery on his broken finger and will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

A disappointing 2025-26 season for the Panthers has been capped off by a series of injuries, most recently Rodrigues, who will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery. The 32-year-old Rodrigues was thrust into a bigger role this season due to injuries, seeing his ice-time creep up to 17:00 per game. He scored 31 points (11G / 20A) in 69 games this season.
