Brodin broke his finger on Tuesday; expected to miss at least two weeks.

Brodin will see a hand specialist on Wednesday and will miss a number of weeks, but they will determine whether it will be 2-3 weeks or four-plus weeks. Brodin’s absence leaves the Wild to replace nearly 20 minutes on the back-end; Nate Prosser will likely draw into the lineup on Thursday.

Pickard will start Friday vs. the Islanders.

Pickard allowed four goals on 37 shots in Colorado’s loss in Calgary on Wednesday. Semyon Varlamov will dress tonight, but Pickard will start despite losing five straight games while allowing a combined 22 goals on 162 shots (.864 SV%). It’s been a struggle for the Avalanche, so avoid Pickard even with an above average matchup.

Pickard allowed three goals on 24 shots in Colorado’s loss in Vancouver on Monday. With Semyon Varlamov still out, Pickard will remain in net. The 24-year-old has lost four consecutive games while posting a 4.55 GAA and .856 SV%. One of those losses came against the Flames, who he will face tonight—he allowed six goals on 31 shots in a 6-3 loss on December 27th.

Pickard was 2-7-0 with a 3.72 GAA and .883 SV% in nine December starts. Despite a nice matchup tonight, he is a rough starting option.

Maatta missed the last two games with an illness, but is set to return to the lineup tomorrow vs. the Canadiens. Once heralded as one of the next great young defenseman, Maatta has struggled to produce offensively, picking up just two assists in 35 games this season.

Pickard will start Thursday in Dallas.

Pickard allowed six goals on 31 shots in Colorado’s loss to the Flames on Tuesday. With Semyon Varlamov out, Pickard will start again tonight in Dallas. Pickard is 2-5-0 with a 3.49 GAA and .886 SV% in December, but has gone 5-2-0 with a 2.51 GAA and .923 SV% on the road this season. The Stars come in having won three of four.

Pickard made 38 saves on 39 shots in Colorado’s OT win in Chicago last Friday. Pickard snapped a personal four-game losing streak and was his sixthhof the season. Tonight he faces the Flames on home-ice, where he is 1-4-1 with a 2.93 GAA an .896 SV% so far this season.

Pickard will start Friday vs. the Blackhawks.

Pickard allowed one goal on 13 shots after replacing Semyon Varlamov in Colorado’s blowout loss to the Maple Leafs last night. Things won’t get any easier tonight against the Blackhawks in Chicago. Pickard is 4-2-0 with a2.78 GAA and .913 SV% on the road this season, but should be avoided tonight.

Pitlick (lower-body) returned to Edmonton to be re-evaluated.

Pitlick was hurt in Monday’s game in St. Louis and was seen postgame in a walking cast up to his thigh and on crutches. Right now, it doesn’t look good for him,” Oilers’ head coach Todd McLellan said postgame. Pitlick will be out until the Christmas break at the very least, so expect Jesse Puljujarvi or Taylor Beck to get back into the lineup on Wednesday.

Pickard will face the Panthers on Friday.

Pickard gave up four goals on 25 shots in Colorado’s loss to the Flyers on Wednesday. With Semyon Varlamov still out, Pickard will start vs. the Panthers. He has allowed a combined eight goals on 45 shots (.822 SV%) in his last two appearances. The Panthers come into Friday on the tail-end of a back-to-back and they’ve lost six of their last seven (1-3-3).

Pickard was pulled after he allowed four goals on 20 shots in Colorado’s 10-1 loss in Montreal on Saturday. With Semyon Varlamov out with a groin injury, Pickard will face the red-hot Flyers tonight. Philadelphia has won nine in a row while averaging 3.56 goals for and 2.11 goals against per game.
