Ryan Strome News

Strome has missed the last four games with a lower-body injury but was on the ice for Tuesday's morning skate and will be a game-time decision in New Jersey. All signs are pointing towards him returning, as he skated in his usual spot on the second line and top power-play unit.

Strome suffered a lower-body injury vs. the Sabres on Sunday and will not play in Pittsburgh. The injury is considered minor, he could even play tomorrow in Detroit. Ryan Reaves will replace him in the lineup on Tuesday.

With Strome out for Saturday's game in Montreal, Filip Chytil will likely move up to the second line with Artemi Panarin. Kaapo Kakko was elevated to PP1 as well.

Strome missed Saturday's practice but head coach David Quinn is expecting Strome to play on Sunday. Strome has played well as of late, scoring two goals with four assists (six points) in his last six games.

Strome, who was acquired from the Oilers on Friday, will replace Mats Zuccarello and skate on the wing with Brett Howden and Jimmy Vesey on Saturday.

Strome signed a two-year contract that carries a $3.1M AAV cap-hit. Strome has significantly better possession numbers than Spooner, posting a 53.5 CorsiFor% and +3.2 CF% rel with the Oilers this season. However, Strome has had a really difficult time producing offence, picking up just two points (1G / 1A) in 18 games this season.

Strome, 23, was the No.5 overall pick in 2011 and has had a couple of tough seasons since posting 50 points (17G / 33A) in 2014-15. Overall, Strome has 126 points (45G / 81A) in 258 career NHL games. Strome is set to become a restricted free agent next summer and carries a $2.5 million cap hit this year, versus Eberle’s $6.0M AAV for the next two seasons.

Strome is reportedly not feeling well, so there’s a good chance that Anthony Beauvillier will replace Strome tonight vs. the Blues.

Strome was a healthy scratch in the last two games, but will be in the lineup for Alan Quine on Wednesday. Strome has collected six points (2G / 4A) in 19 games this season. He will play centre, likely on the third line with Jason Chimera and Anders Lee.

The former fifth overall pick (2011) had 17 goals and 33 assists (50 points) in 2014-15, showcasing his high-end offensive ability. He is an intriguing late-round pick for 2016-17.
