Last offseason, the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired Matias Maccelli with the hopes that he could provide supplementary offence and playmaking after the departure of Mitch Marner. The 25-year-old Finnish forward had a decent season with the Maple Leafs, scoring 39 points (14G / 25A) in 71 games, but the team opted not to give the restricted free agent a qualifying offer, sending him to free agency and ultimately signing a one-year contract with the New York Islanders.

Maccelli did not practice on Monday due to illness, and it is unclear whether he will be ready to suit up when Toronto returns to action tomorrow against the Chicago Blackhawks. That said, Maccelli has been a healthy scratch for the previous two weeks and was probably not being rushed back into the lineup with the team playing above .500 during that stretch.

Max Domi will be a healthy scratch on Friday against the Washington Capitals, allowing Maccelli to re-enter the lineup. The 2027 3rd round pick can become a 2029 2nd round pick if the Maple Leafs make the playoffs and Maccelli records at least 51 points during the 2025-26 season. Nick Bjugstad will be a healthy scratch on Thursday against the Buffalo Sabres, allowing Maccelli to re-enter the lineup. The 24-year-old Maccelli has not played since Feburary 8th. He has 18 points (8G / 10A) in 52 games this season.

Lawson Crouse will draw back into Utah's lineup on Thursday against the Columbus Blue Jackets, resulting in Maccelli being a healthy scratch. The 24-year-old Maccelli zero points in his last five game and will be a healthy scratch for the second time in the last two weeks.

Utah HC head coach Andre Tourigny refused to provide insight on Maccelli being a healthy scratch other than it being an "internal decision." The 24-year-old Maccelli is averaging 13:58 time-on-ice and has 17 points (8G / 9A) in 48 games this season. Michael Carcone will draw into the lineup as Maccelli's replacement.

Maccelli is the latest victim of the bug travelling around Utah's dressing room. His absence tonight makes room for Clayton Keller, who missed last game with an illness.
