Jordan Staal News

The word coming from team sources is that the early prognosis on Staal is that he has a Grade 2/3 MCL tear that would put him out of the lineup for at least 3-6 weeks with no surgery required.

Staal has not played since hurting his knee on Friday night. Tough to expect too much more from him this season as he probably returns with a few weeks left in the season.

Doesn't sound encouraging for him to play although the team did send down his replacement Jason Williams. The former 2nd overall pick has 12 goals and 18 points and was likely to see a boost in offensive minutes with Crosby sidelined. Expect a further update on his status prior to tomorrow's game.

Staal's six goals are second on the team while his nine points are one behind leading scorer James Neal. Missing Staal would be a giant blow to the team even though they seem to win without anyone healthy. He did not travel to Toronto and will not play tonight.
