There’s a generational shift happening in NHL creases right now, with some of the top young goalies from recent drafts beginning to settle into their rhythms, while icons like Jonathan Quick begin to hang up their skates.

On a recent episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, co-hosts Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goalie Carter Hutton dove into which young goalies could have a bright future and what their potential next steps could be as part of a question from a listener.

Tyler Yaremchuk: We got an Ask DFO. I don’t like that Kevin Lankinen is included in this because I don’t think he’s in the same conversation, but the question was asking about Adin Hill, Jet Greaves, and some of these young up-and-coming goalies. I’ll phrase it this way to you. Is there one young goalie in the NHL that you are really high on that you watch and go, like, man, that guy is a future bona fide No. 1?

Carter Hutton: In that list that was there, Jet Greaves, like Greaves, without a question, in my opinion. I think he is the guy, and I know his size is a bit worrisome, but he is very, very good, and I think you look at the Columbus Blue Jackets and see how good he was over the years. I think he’s a guy.

The other guy I am very excited to see how his game will adjust to the NHL, who’s not here yet, is Carter George, the World Juniors-dominant goalie for Canada. When I was scouting with the St. Louis Blues for a little while there, and we were breaking down game film, the majority of goalies you look at, you can kind of take the perspective of “what can we do at the NHL level to help their game hit a higher ceiling?” When I watch Carter George, there aren’t many flaws in his game, right? Where a lot of guys are projects, you can see how maybe you can help them get better. I think he’s going to be a very interesting one with the LA Kings, given what he can do and how his game adjusts to the NHL.
