It was a challenging year for the St. Louis Blues, and core forwards Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou were no exception.

Thomas was reportedly very nearly traded at the deadline, and Kyrou’s name has been in the rumor mill for years.

While Kyrou’s offensive production took a nosedive down to 46 points after four straight years with at least 67, he was statistically among the very best defensive forwards in the NHL all year long.

With Alex Steen taking over in the GM chair for outgoing longtime executive Doug Armstrong, will the former player want to quickly put his own stamp on this roster? And if he does, would that come in the form of moving out a player like Kyrou?

On Daily Faceoff‘s latest trade board, Kyrou was listed under the second tier of potential trade targets, as a name to keep an eye on, mostly due to the fact that he has a full no-trade clause as part of his contract.

On Wednesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, host Tyler Yaremchuk and co-host and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton were joined by Daily Faceoff managing editor Matt Larkin to discuss what this offseason could look like for Kyrou and the Blues.

Carter Hutton: You know, Matt, as the succession plan comes in in St. Louis, right? Alex Steen takes over for Doug Armstrong. Jordan’s Kyrou’s name was on the ‘Names to keep an eye on.’ It felt like he was gone. Like, what’s your take on Kyrou? Is he gonna stay or go? Because he is an asset, and like, St. Louis is one of those teams that are just like, are they coming or are they going?

Matt Larkin: Yeah, I think Jordan Kyrou, he’s got the matching contract with Robert Thomas. I think that Thomas, from what I understand, is now less likely to go based on what was reported last week from Andy Strickland. With Jordan Kyoru, he’s not in my top tier of guaranteed to go, because anytime a player has a full no-trade clause, he’s got enough control over his destiny that we can’t assume it’s a lock he’s gonna go. But at the same time, I feel like the writing was on the wall. Since the game in late, I think it was 2023, when Jordan Kyrou got booed by his own fans, he cried after the game. It just felt like that was a sign that this is not his long-term fit. This season, he had a really bad year offensively. He was healthy scratched. Under the hood, was actually pretty good defensively. So it’s not like he was a total loss. But I do feel like he’s someone that could use a change of scenery. In the three years before this one, if you look at his numbers combined, he was like top-20, 22 in goals, I think tied with Adrian Kempe. So there’s a lot of upside to unlock. I would love to see Jordan Kyrou in a place like Edmonton, for example. I think he could have career best numbers if he finds the right situation. So there should be teams calling. I just don’t think it’s a guarantee he goes.
