What is Jason Botterill’s fate after Ron Francis’ departure?

The Seattle Kraken became the latest NHL team to send shockwaves through their organization this week, parting ways with president of hockey operations Ron Francis and sparking the launch of the next chapter in franchise history.
With Francis leaving his role and an underwhelming season, there is also the potential for further change, with the chance that the Kraken’s general manager and executive vice president, Jason Botterill, could be on the move.
On Thursday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, The Fourth Period’s NHL insider, David Pagnotta, joined co-hosts Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton to break down what may happen with Botterill’s future in Seattle.
Tyler Yaremchuk: The first question that pops into my mind is if Ron Francis is out and a new president is coming in, does that mean some wholesale changes and potentially Jason Botterill being out in Seattle?
David Pagnotta: I’d be a little bit surprised if they end up going in that direction. There’s no guarantee, per se, that they’re going to bring in a president of hockey operations again, and they may wait things out for now.
Jason Botterill heads the hockey department and the hockey operation side of things, so they may just keep it to him to see how things go for the foreseeable future. It’s not going to stop them potentially from exploring their options and seeing what might be available to them from that position, but for the time being, at least in their release and what they’ve relayed to everybody, is that they’re going to let Botterill kind of handle things as executive vice president and GM, and then go from there.
