Norway’s growing NHL contingent might have gained a future member when the Vancouver Canucks drafted winger Niklas Aaram-Olsen with the No. 41 selection in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

Aaram-Olsen is a pure sniper who has racked up a ton of goals with the Norwegian U18 and U20 outfits over the past three seasons, as well as for Orebro’s juniors, his Swedish parent club (43 G in 71 GP since his 2024 debut). The 18-year-old also broke into 16 games with Orebro’s senior team in the Swedish top division, though has yet to record a point while playing against men at the professional level.

Like many prospects whose shots are their most valuable asset, the biggest challenge for Aaram-Olsen as he moves up in competition will be creating his own opportunities to uncork bombs. His one-timer from the right circle (Aaram-Olsen is a left shot) is already a threat, but he has work to do to become a more consistent threat at even strength.

That’s been a concern for some onlookers, as Daily Faceoff prospect guru Steven Ellis noted in his final draft rankings. “(Aaram-Olsen) often can be found dominating his own age group … against men, though, (he) has left a lot to be desired.” Ellis wrote. “Scouts have knocked him for having a lack of high-end tools outside of his shot.”

It’s an upside play, then, but few tools encourage GMs to take those sorts of swings quite like a pro-level shot, and Aaram-Olsen could yet improve his ability to get to hard areas as he grows into an impressive 6’1, 187-lb frame.

Ellis ranked the forward as a high second-round prospect because of his natural goal-scoring ability, which he will continue to hone at the SHL and international levels until his new employers see fit to bring him to North America.
