The winds of change are blowing for the Vancouver Canucks. With star defenseman Quinn Hughes already out the door, there’s no question that more moves are on the way as Vancouver looks to better position itself for the future.

Even after dealing Hughes, the Canucks still have one of the most desirable assets on the market in winger Kiefer Sherwood. Sherwood has a team-high 17 goals, and plays the exact sort of physical game that contending teams would love to add to their forward units.

After a big burst right around the holidays, the trade market has cooled off a bit for now, but Sherwood could be the next domino to fall that could set of a chain reaction around the league.

On Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, host Tyler Yaremchuk and co-host and NHL insider David Pagnotta discussed what the timeline might be for a Sherwood trade.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Kiefer Sherwood… Every team’s going to sign up to want that guy, and hey if Vancouver retains, holy smokes. $750,000 AAV, that’d be insane. He’s cooled off a little bit as the season went on after his red-hot start to things, but still, I think a lot of contenders would look at this guy… If you’re a team that’s maybe going to make just one add, Sherwood’s probably one of those guys that a lot of teams would look at because of the cost… What’s the latest with the Canucks forward?

David Pagnotta: Absolutely… The goal-scoring is one thing. It’s the physicality that he brings. He had that little cold stretch offensively, but he was still throwing the body around, and that’s what teams are really impressed by. The fact that it wasn’t just the full element, it was only one side of his game that kind of hit a little bit of a slump… The $1.5 million cap hit is what has some of these teams licking their chops to try and pry him out of there. That’s also why Vancouver has held pretty firm on their asking price. Things did pick up in the last week or so right after the holiday break with respect to conversations with other teams about trading for Kiefer Sherwood.
