Some roster moves as the Toronto Sceptres get set to play for the first time since the Olympic break.

On Friday, the team announced that forward Emma Gentry is out with a lower-body injury. In her place, forward Lauren Messier has signed a 10-day contract.

Gentry has appeared in all 16 games of her rookie season. The Alpena, Mich. native was highly-regarded, as the Sceptres took her in the second round, 11th overall, of the 2025 PWHL Draft. She was Toronto’s first pick in the draft, as the team gave up its third overall pick, as well as pick No. 27, to the New York Sirens in exchange for defender Ella Shelton.

Gentry has certainly been trying to find her footing in the pro ranks. She has just one goal on her record thus far, that coming back on Dec. 7 against the Montreal Victoire. The St. Cloud State product went pointless in the last 12 games before the league-wide pause. He has a plus/minus of -4 while averaging 11:27 of ice time.

This is the second time Messier has signed a 10-day contract this year, meaning she’s not eligible to sign another short-term deal for the remainder of the season. Her first stint on the main roster came in late November after Daryl Watts suffered an upper-body injury. The Burlington, Ont. native was in the lineup for the Sceptres’ loss to the Boston Fleet on Nov. 29, and the team’s victory over the Ottawa Charge on Dec. 4. She didn’t register a point, posting an even rating while averaging over five minutes of ice time.

Messier entered the pro ranks after playing four years at Dartmouth College, where she scored 23 goals and 25 assists for 48 points in 117 games.

The Sceptres get set to take on the Seattle Kraken on Thursday night. Toronto (4-1-3-8) currently sits seventh in the PWHL, seven points back of the Sirens for the last playoff spot.
