After cutting his teeth in the minors, a former junior star has inked his first NHL contract.

On Tuesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that the team has signed forward Landon Sim to a two-year, entry-level contract. The deal is set to begin next season and carry through the 2027-28 campaign.

Sim is just finishing up his first year as a pro. Originally taken by the St. Louis Blues in the sixth round, 184th overall, of the 2022 NHL Draft, the New Glasgow, N.S. native didn’t sign with the team, electing to stay in the Ontario Hockey League with the London Knights.

The move paid off, as Sim not only had a career-best performance during the 2024-25 season, scoring 53 points with 105 penalty minutes, but also helped the Knights win a second straight OHL Championship and the franchise’s third Memorial Cup.

After that, he joined the Maple Leafs’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, on a minor-league deal. He has split time between the Marlies and the Leafs’ secondary affiliate, the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. With the Marlies, he potted three goals in 13 games, amassing 31 penalty minutes. In Cincinnati, the 21-year-old registered two goals and four assists for six points, and another 44 PIM, in 18 appearances.

Sim has brought the same toughness and tenacity that made him a staple of Dale Hunter’s lineup across four seasons with the Knights. While he only averaged a little over 20 points a season in his first three years with the team, Sim was a physical force and wasn’t afraid to muck it up with the other team’s stars.

In 213 career games with London, he scored 66 goals and 58 assists for 124 points, with another 31 points in 56 playoff games.
