Leafs sign Artur Akhtyamov to three-year contract extension

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Sunday they signed goaltender Artur Akhtyamov to a three-year contract extension that will keep him in the organization through the 2028-29 season.

According to a press release, the deal is a two-way contract for the 2026-27 season, then a one-way contract for the remaining two years. It will pay him $900,000 annually.
In 32 games with the Toronto Marlies, the Leafs’ AHL affiliate, the 24-year-old goaltender is 18-10-4 with a .904 save percentage (SV%) and 2.86 goals against average (GAA) in 2025-26.
Across two AHL seasons, Akhtyamov is 29-18-13 with a .903 SV% and 2.84 GAA with four shutouts in 58 regular-season games.
He made his NHL debut Dec. 13 in a relief appearance for the Leafs against the Edmonton Oilers. He stopped all five shots he faced in 10 minutes of action.
Akhtyamov, a native of Kazan, Russia, was taken in the fourth round by the Leafs in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Before moving to North America, he spent five seasons playing in Russia’s various professional domestic leagues.
In the All-Russian Hockey League, the nation’s second-highest league, he went 44-38-23 with a .928 SV% in 110 career games.
Going into Sunday, the Leafs are 28-27-12 with 68 points through 67 games in 2025-26. They are eighth in the Atlantic Division and 12 points back of a Wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference.
Toronto has lost nine of their last 10 games since returning from the Olympic break, including a 3-2 shootout defeat at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres.
Joseph Woll is 14-11-5 with a .906 SV% and minus-2.1 goals saved above expected (GSAx) in 31 games this season. Meanwhile, Anthony Stolarz is 7-9-3 with an .890 SV% and minus-9.6 GSAx in 21 appearances.
