Lightning’s Point says injuries didn’t slow him down in 2025-26

Despite a rather bumpy performance this year, one of the Tampa Bay Lightning‘s top stars insists it was because of his health.
At the team’s end-of-season media availability, Lightning forward was questioned about his reduced production throughout the 2025-26 campaign and whether injuries plagued him. He denied that any ailments caused him to have a down year, noting that he’s working on other areas of his game.
“I think I’ve definitely learned some things in my game that just I need to get better at,” Point explained. “Now it’s putting in the work.”
Point ended up missing a total of 19 games during the regular season. An undisclosed injury kept him off the ice from late November through mid-December, while a lower-body injury suffered in January kept him out of the lineup until late February, forcing him to be taken off Canada’s men’s Olympic roster.
In the 63 games he played, the 30-year-old scored 18 goals and 32 assists for 50 points. It marked the first time since the 2021-22 season that Point failed to average a point per game during the regular season. He scored a goal in Tampa’s opening-round series against the Montreal Canadiens, which saw the Bolts bow out in seven games.
While he missed out on representing his country in Milan three months ago, some wonder if Point would be interested in playing for Canada at the upcoming IIHF Men’s World Championship. However, Point noted that Hockey Canada has yet to reach out to him to gauge his interest.
Canada’s trek at the Men’s Worlds in Switzerland begin on May 15 against Sweden.
