Blues in conversation to shop several players before deadline

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong needs to keep this classic proverb in mind leading up to Friday’s trade deadline. Despite a potential deal involving defenseman Colton Parayko going to the Buffalo Sabres getting nixed, with Parayko deciding to exercise his no-trade clause, Armstong has plenty of opportunity to recoup assets for a St. Louis team wallowing at the bottom of the Central Division standings.
The Blues have a number of players that would interest teams looking to bolster their lineup for a playoff run. Many of the players who won the Stanley Cup with St. Louis in 2019 are still there, and would provide the kind of winning experience that contenders typically covet at the deadline.
On Thursday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, hosts Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton were joined by The Fourth Period‘s David Pagnotta to discuss which players on the Blues are likeliest to get moved.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Any updates on Robert Thomas, Brayden Schenn, Justin Faulk? The list of names available in St. Louis is long, it’s not just Parayko.
David Pagnotta: Pius Suter, Oskar Sundquist, Mathieu Joseph they’re trying, Jordan Kyrou. There’s a lot of irons in the fire for them. I think teams have circled back on Thomas, and I throw Utah in that mix. I anticipate those conversations continuing today. To what extent it evolves into, we’ve got to wait and see. I think Utah and a few other teams have circled back on Thomas. I think the Islanders are among the teams interested in Jordan Kyrou, but there’s a very high price for both guys. Thomas is another level, but there’s also a very steep price for Kyrou. I think (Kashawn) Aitcheson is one of the players that was asked for in talks with the Islanders, and I don’t think the Islanders have much of an appetite to go down that direction.
Pius Suter is somebody that I was curious about with Colorado before they brought in Nic Roy. I thought that maybe that might be a target for them. He’s generated some interest from a number of other teams too. The one where I’ve gotten a little bit of hesitancy has been the captain Brayden Schenn. I was told by a few people that they’re not really overly motivated to move him. If the right offer comes across, obviously they’ll consider it, and if it makes sense they’ll do it. It seems like he’s kind of lower down on the list, at least going into today, in terms of popularity from a discussion perspective.
