After a rough defeat in the opening game of the Western Conference Final, the Colorado Avalanche are wondering what they need to do to get back in the series against the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Presidents’ Trophy winners were dealt a hefty slice of humble pie on Wednesday night. After getting through the first two rounds in nearly the minimum, Colorado found itself trailing 3-0 by the early stages of the third period. While the team made a valiant effort to try and erase the deficit, the Avs came up short, losing 4-2.

Some wonder if that means the Avalanche should make a change between the pipes. While Scott Wedgewood wasn’t terrible, giving up three goals on 27 shots. However, sometimes a change can jolt the roster. Mackenzie Blackwood certainly wouldn’t be coming in cold, as he started the last two games in Round 2 against the Minnesota Wild, though he was pulled in Game 5, before the Avs roared back to win that game, clinching the series.

On Thursday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton discuss if it’s worth the Avalanche turning to Blackwood on Friday night.

Carter Hutton: Too early in my opinion. I get it, because you have a stud on your bench too, but he hasn’t been what you expect. I think it’s a situation where if it doesn’t go well in Game 2, maybe you pull Wedgwood, get [Blackwood] in, get his feet under him before he starts Game 3.

I do think it’s too soon to get away from Wedgwood because he has been a difference maker. You look at how Mackenzie played in that one game against Minnesota. He was really good, and not that he was bad, in the game he got pulled in. The Foligno goals were all kind of cross-ice passes. I just don’t think it’s been enough yet to go to him.
