Oilers re-sign Shakir Mukhamadullin to two-year contract

The Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with restricted free agent Shakir Mukhamadullin, his agent, Dan Milstein, reported Saturday morning.
PuckPedia subsequently confirmed the news of the signing. Mukhamadullin will earn $1.75 million from the Oilers in each of the next two seasons, marking a solid raise from his previous $1 million salary; he will again be scheduled to become an RFA when his contract expires.
The Oilers acquired Mukhamadullin, along with defense prospect Zack Sharp, from the San Jose Sharks on July 1 in exchange for veteran defenseman Darnell Nurse. The 24-year-old defender collected five goals and 12 points while averaging 17:09 of ice time in 50 games with the Sharks during the 2025-26 regular season.
The New Jersey Devils originally selected Mukhamadullin in the first round (No. 20 overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft. The 6’4″ left-shot defender spent parts of four seasons with KHL club Ufa Salavat Yulayev, based in his hometown of Ufa, Russia, before coming over to North America in the spring of 2023. He also skated in seven games with Team Russia at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Shortly before Mukhamadullin arrived stateside, he was included in a significant trade with the Sharks. As the 2023 trade deadline approached, the Devils sent Mukhamadullin, Fabian Zetterlund, Nikita Okhotiuk, Andreas Johnsson, and three draft picks to San Jose in exchange for a package headlined by star winger Timo Meier.
Mukhamadullin had previously appeared in three playoff games with the Utica Comets, New Jersey’s AHL affiliate, but he became a full-time professional in North America with the Sharks and their own farm team, the San Jose Barracuda.
Through 83 career NHL games with the Sharks over parts of three seasons to date, Mukhamadullin has collected seven goals, 22 points, and 34 penalty minutes. He’s added eight goals and 53 points in 88 career AHL games with the Barracuda.
