Torrent place Mikyla Grant-Mentis on long-term injured reserve

For a team that’s already had enough problems this season, they will be without one of their spirited players for a little while.
On Sunday, the Seattle Torrent announced that forward Mikyla Grant-Mentis has been placed on long-term injured reserve with an upper-body injury. In response, the Torrent has signed forward Gabrielle David to a standard contract.
Grant-Mentis was hurt back in a game on March 13 when Seattle was taking on the Minnesota Frost. Late in the second period, Grant-Mentis was boarded by Frost forward Britta Curl-Salemme. MGM went hard into the boards, and struggled to return to her feet.
Seattle Torrent’s Mikyla Grant-Mentis is out with an upper-body injury following this boarding penalty in the team’s previous game. ‘Day-to-day.’
With some help, the Brampton, Ont. native was able to get to her feet, favoring her right shoulder. Curl-Salemme was handed a minor penalty for boarding on the play.
Per the PWHL’s rules on LTIR, Grant-Mentis won’t be eligible to return to the lineup until April 4, when the Torrent visit the New York Sirens at Madison Square Garden.
It has been a solid season for Grant-Mentis. In her first season with one of the league’s newest team, she’s provided some offensive spark for a Seattle squad that has struggled to score this season. In 18 games, the 27-year-old has scored two goals and three assists for five points, scoring a goal against the Boston Fleet on March 11. She has a plus/minus of -3 while averaging 15:24 of ice time.
David was originally drafted by the Montreal Victoire in the ninth round of the inaugural PWHL Draft in 2023. She scored two goals and six points in 23 games during the team’s first season, but spent most of the 2024-25 campaign on Montreal’s reserve list. The former Clarkson star moved overseas to play for SDE HF of the SDHL. She had a very fruiftul season, scoring 19 goals and 42 points in 35 games, with another nine points in the postseason.
The Torrent (5-1-2-13) sit last in the PWHL, 12 points back of the last playoff spot.
