The Seattle Kraken won’t be loaning forward Berkly Catton to Team Canada for the 2026 World Junior Championships, according to hockey insider Frank Seravalli.

“Catton is close to returning from injury and with (the) Mason Marchment trade on Friday, (he) will have no shortage of opportunity in Seattle lineup,” Seravalli wrote on X.

The news comes not long after Seravalli reported the San Jose Sharks would also not loan defenseman Sam Dickinson to the Canadian team.

As it stands, the 14 forwards who survived the latest round of cuts will head to Minnesota Monday for the tournament, according to Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis.

Taken No. 8 overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, Catton has spent the entire 2025-26 season with the Kraken, recording five assists and four penalty minutes in 21 games.

Catton, a native of Saskatoon, Sask., played three full seasons for the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League. In 197 career games, Catton recorded 116 goals and 168 assists for 284 points. He posted back-to-back 100-point campaigns in 2023-24 and 2024-25.

In 28 career WHL playoff games, Catton posted 11 goals and 35 assists for 46 points.

The Kraken are 13-14-6 with 32 points, last in the Pacific Division, the Western Conference and the NHL.

Seattle is in California next week as they will face the Anaheim Ducks on Monday, then head to Hollywood to take on the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday.
