One of the more decorated players in today’s game is hanging up her skates.

On Thursday, Toronto Sceptres defender Savannah Harmon officially announced that she is retiring from hockey at the age of 30.

In an Instagram post, Harmon expressed gratitude after an exceptional career.

“I truly can’t put into words how grateful I am for everything hockey has brought into my life over the years,” Harmon said. “Through all the highs and lows, these have been some of the absolute best years and memories of my life. Hockey brought me my very best friends, the best giggles, and so many unforgettable memories that I’ll carry with me forever. It’s hard to say goodbye to something that has been such a huge part of my life for so long, but I’m hanging them up with the fullest heart and looking forward to my next chapter.”

Harmon came to the end of her three-year contract in the PWHL this past year, which she signed with the Ottawa Charge prior to the league’s inaugural season. She had an exceptional first year in Ottawa, and was the star of the show at the PWHL Showcase during the 2024 NHL All-Star Weekend. The following season, she was traded to the Sceptres in a blockbuster trade. While there was optimism that she could help improve the team’s blue line, she struggled with her new team, scoring just 12 points in 54 games.

In 84 regular-season games in the PWHL, the Illinois native scored five goals and 19 assists for 24 points.

Prior to the PWHL, she played in both the Premier Hockey Federation (formerly known as the National Women’s Hockey League) and the PWHPA for three years. After spending one season with the PHF’s Buffalo Beauts, Harmon participated in the Dream Gap Tour from 2019 to 2023.

On top of her pro career, Harmon also has some hardware from her international career. While representing the United States, she won two gold medals at the IIHF Women’s World Championship, taking home silver thrice. She was also on the Olympic roster that finished second at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

Harmon also won two NCAA Women’s Hockey championships at Clarkson University.
