A young blueliner is staying in the Bay Area for a couple of more years.

On Tuesday, San Jose Sharks general manager Mike Grier announced that the team has re-signed defenseman Nolan Allen to a two-year contract. The deal will carry an AAV of $875,000 through the 2027-28 campaign.

According to PuckPedia, the first year is a two-way contract with a minor-league cap hit of $300,000 and a guaranteed salary of $375,000. Year two of the deal is one-way. Allan came to the end of his entry-level contract this past season, which had an AAV of $880,000, that he signed with the Chicago Blackhawks in Sept. 2021.

Allan began his professional career in the Blackhawks system. The Original Six franchise took the Saskatoon native in the first round, 32nd overall, of the 2021 NHL Draft. After a fruitful junior career, he joined Chicago’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, during the 2023-24 campaign. He would make his NHL debut the following year, appearing in 43 games with the Blackhawks, scoring a goal and seven assists for eight points.

That has been Allan’s lone bit of NHL experience to date. He spent parts of the first three years of his career with the IceHogs before being dealt to the Sharks as part of the deal that sent him, Laurent Brossoit and a 2028 NHL Draft pick in exchange for defensemen Ryan Ellis, Jake Furlong, and a 2028 fourth-round pick. He went on to play 35 games for the San Jose Barracuda, the Sharks’ primary affiliate, scoring two goals and 12 assists for 14 points, appearing in both of the team’s contests in the Calder Cup Playoffs. In 65 career games, Allan posted four goals and 16 assists for a career-high 20 points.

In 144 regular-season games in the AHL, Allan has posted 11 goals and 32 assists for 43 points, with four points in nine postseason affairs.
