Sharks acquire signing rights to Andre Gasseau from Bruins; draft picks swapped
San Jose Sharks general manager Mike Grier has made a trade for the second day in a row as the NHL offseason gets started in earnest.
After landing defenseman Michael Kesselring in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres that saw them trade down seven spots toward the end of the first round, Grier has again swapped draft picks in a trade with the Boston Bruins that also nets them the signing rights to prospect Andre Gasseau.
The Sharks are adding the No. 120 overall pick in next weekâs NHL Draft, and theyâre sending the 104th and 157th overall selections to Boston.
Gasseau is an NCAA hockey product, and he just completed his fourth consecutive productive season as a member of the Boston College Eagles. Gasseau captained the Eagles this season to a 20-15-1 record in a year that came to an end with a loss to UConn in the Hockey East tournament semifinal.
The 22-year-old California native had 23 points in 23 games played this season, and in each of his prior three years in Chesnut Hill, he was good for either 29 or 30 points.
The Sharks are no strangers to Boston College alum, as talented forward Will Smith played his collegiate hockey there. The two were teammates for the 2023-24 campaign.
Despite seeing his draft pick count drop by one in this deal, Grier still has two first-round picks (No. 2 and No. 27 overall), a second-round pick and two fourth-round picks to continue to stockpile young talent as San Jose looks to continue the upward trajectory of its rebuild.
After finishing as the worst team in the NHL in 2024-25, the Sharks were a surprising contender for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for most of the 2025-26 campaign, falling out of the race down the stretch despite a valiant effort.
With Macklin Celebrini firmly cemented as an elite franchise player, Grierâs focus is on continuing to surround him with quality depth and impactful players.
