Huska, Carbery among additions to Canada’s 2026 Men’s World Championship coaching staff

Calgary Flames head coach Ryan Huska and Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery have been added to Misha Donskov’s coaching staff for Team Canada at the 2026 IIHF Men’s World Championship.
Hockey Canada announced its full coaching staff for the upcoming tournament on Monday afternoon, with Los Angeles Kings interim head coach D.J. Smith and Capitals goaltending coach Scott Murray also set to participate.
Huska, Carbery, and Smith will serve as assistant coaches under Donskov, while Murray will be the team’s goaltending consultant. Additionally, Elliott Mondou will serve as video coach, while James Emery will be the team’s director of performance analysis.
Hockey Canada announced late last week that Donskov would serve as head coach for Team Canada at both the 2026 Worlds and the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship. Donskov, 49, was hired by Hockey Canada as its vice president of hockey operations and men’s national team coach back in June 2025; he previously served as an assistant coach with the Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights.
The 2026 Worlds will take place in the Swiss cities of Zurich and Fribourg from May 15 to 31. Former Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving will serve as Team Canada’s GM for the tournament, assisted by Jason Spezza, Kyle Dubas, Andrew Cogliano, Gregory Campbell, and Hockey Canada Sr. VP Scott Salmond.
“We are excited to unveil the coaching staff that will lead our team at the 2026 IIHF World Championship, as this is a group that combines many years of NHL and international experience. Misha, Spencer, Ryan, D.J., Scott, James and Elliott have extensive resumes, and we look forward to them guiding our team in Switzerland,” Treliving said in a statement on Monday. “We have also assembled an incredible support staff with Olympic, world championship and NHL experience, and we know this group will do everything it can to help our team be successful.”
Team Canada finished in fifth place at the 2025 Worlds, which were held in Sweden. They’ll open this year’s tournament against the Swedes on May 15, before taking on Italy, Denmark, Norway, Slovenia, Slovakia and Czechia in the run-up to the medal rounds.
