One of the big dominoes ahead of the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline has fallen, with Tyler Myers getting sent from Vancouver to Dallas on Wednesday afternoon.

Myers was seen as one of the top blueliners available this year, with the Canucks even keeping him out of competition recently. With the rest of the Central Division set to be a bloodbath, Myers should give the Stars a big boost come playoff time.

Former NHL video coach Steve Peters joined Daily Faceoff Live’s Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton to discuss the trade:

Steve Peters: “I think it’s a really good move. And I think when we talked about those teams trying to make a deal to get over the hump, Dallas has to beat Colorado if they’re going to make it to, to the Stanley Cup, they have to. And I still think it’s going to be a Dallas/Minnesota first round. I don’t think Minnesota is quite ready. They might make a splash. I think Dallas wins that series.

“So Dallas needed to make a move. They need to shore up their defense, especially if you’re gonna play Colorado. You’re talking about a team that plays with incredible pace, gets hard to the net, and you’re gonna have to box out. You’re gonna have to be able to defend against fast teams. You’ve already got Miro Heiskanen, and you’ve got Esa Lindell, you got Thomas Harley, you’ve got the defensemen that can get you the offense on the side of the puck. So Tyler Myers brings some strength, some pushback, low in the zone. He can play playoff hockey. I like his reach.”

Carter Hutton: “I think the fact, too, you look at Heiskanen being healthy this year. I touched on that last year; they didn’t have him. And then right now, I think a show of confidence by Jim Nill, they could just set a record 10 games straight. This is without Mikko Rantanen, without Rope Hintz. Those are two key pieces as they keep winning games. And you look at the way Wyatt Johnson’s been playing. Matt Duchene has been unbelievable. There should be a lot of confidence for Dallas, especially with this add.

Steve Peters: “When you see them win 10 games – I don’t remember what Dallas did last year going into the Stanley Cup playoffs, but they were horrific. They couldn’t get a win in their last 10 games. They were giving up goals left and right. And it looked like as they went into the playoffs against Colorado, it looked like it was going to be more of the same. If they can continue to play this well without the players they have out of the lineup, and they can get those guys back with plenty of runway to get up and run it. That’s the big fear, too, is not to try to do it on Day 1 of the playoffs. Hopefully, everybody gets up and running before.”
