After a lull to seemingly make way for the NHL’s chaotic offseason, the PWHL is back in action with some players putting pen to paper.

Toronto brings back Kondas, signs Campbell

On Monday, the Toronto Sceptres signed defender Jess Kondas and goaltender Grace Campbell to one-year contracts for the 2026-27 season.

Kondas has been part of the Sceptres since the league’s first season. After not playing a game during the inaugural campaign, sitting on the sidelines as a reserve, she appeared in just one game in 2024-25, scoring in her PWHL debut on Dec. 27, 2024. She ended up signing a one-year standard player agreement last summer, but only saw action in 14 games. She didn’t register a point, but posted a plus/minus of +2 while averaging 4:42 of ice time. The Calgary native spent one season overseas in the SDHL, playing for SDE HF during the 2022-23 campaign.

Campbell went undrafted at the 2026 PWHL Draft in Detroit last month, making her an unrestricted free agent. She enters the pro ranks after a solid NCAA career at Boston College, where she was the program’s No. 1 backstop over the past three years. In her senior season, she posted a record of 15-18-1, with a 2.64 goals-against average, a .927 save percentage and four shutouts. Across four seasons in Chestnut Hill, the 23-year-old went 54-45-10, with a 2.35 GAA, a .926 SV% and 13 shutouts. Prior to her college tenure, Campbell played several games with the Potomac Patriors of the United States Premier Hockey League, a lower form of junior hockey, becoming the first female to win a game in the league during the 2021-22 campaign.

Campbell gives the Sceptres three goaltenders on standard contracts for next season, joining Raygan Kirk and Jessie McPherson.

With the signings, the Sceptres have 14 of a possible players on the books for the 2026-27 campaign. They’re allowed to sign 19 players prior to training camp.

Boissonnault returns for another year

The Minnesota Frost also locked down its goaltending depth, re-signing Marlene Boissonnault to a one-year contract.

This is the fourth year in a row that the New Brunswick native has been signed to be the third-string goaltender. During the league’s inaugural season, she was down on the depth chart behind Ann-Renee Desbiens and Elaine Chuli in Montreal. Boissonnault then joined the Frost in the summer 2024, and watched as Nicole Hensley and Maddie Rooney backstopped the team to another Walter Cup. The Cornell product finally made her PWHL debut on April 25 of this year, making 20 saves in an overtime loss to the Vancouver Goldeneyes.

Boissonnault is expected to be the No. 3 this fall behind Rooney and Darya Gredzen, who Minnesota selected in the fifth round of the 2026 draft.

The Frost now have 15 players under contract next season.
