PWHL San Jose signs Maggie Connors to two-year contract

One of the PWHL’s originals is heading to the Golden State.
On Thursday, PWHL San Jose announced that the team has signed forward Maggie Connors to a two-year contract that will carry through the 2027-28 season.
Connors is the seventh signing made by the expansion team in the Bay Area and the second in Phase 3. She joins the team’s initial signings made during the second phase of the Expansion Roster Distribution Process, which include Kristin O’Neill, Maddi Wheeler, Anne Cherkowski, Corinne Schroeder and Rory Guilday.
While moving across the continent is quite the culture shift for Connors, but there will be some familiarity for the 25-year-old, as she’ll be reunited with general manager and head coach Troy Ryan, who was previously the bench boss for the Toronto Sceptres since Day 1. Connors played under Ryan since being taken in the 11th round of the inaugural PWHL Draft in 2023. She wasn’t protected by general manager Gina Kingsbury, as Toronto protected Renata Fast, Ella Shelton and Raygan Kirk, with the team adding defender Kali Flanagan to its list in Phase 3.
Connors might not be a noted goal scorer, but her efforts in her own zone made her one of Ryan’s favorites during her time in Toronto. After scoring three goals and six points in the PWHL’s first season, the Newfoundland native posted just two goals in 2024-25, before notching three goals and two assists for five points this past year.
In 84 regular-season games, Connors has notched eight goals and five assists for 13 points, with another two points in nine Walter Cup Playoff games.
Connors’ international experience isn’t extensive. She won the bronze medal with Canada at the 2018 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship, while also being named to the Canadian roster during the 2023-24 Rivalry Series.
San Jose can sign one more player during this phase. Phase 3 of the expansion process continues through 3 p.m. ET on June 12.
