One of the game’s biggest stars is elected to move south and join one of the newest teams in the PWHL.

On Friday, PWHL Hamilton became the first of the four expansion teams this offseason to make a signing. The team went after one of the biggest dogs in the yard, signing former Ottawa Charge captain Brianne Jenner to a three-year contract. It’s a standard player agreement, meaning it’s not an expansion foundational offer or a foundational player offer.

On her Instagram, Jenner thanked the Charge fans and teammates she’s had over the past few years. She also noted that she wanted to stay in Ottawa, but things didn’t come to pass, as the team elected to protect Gwyneth Philips, Ronja Savolainen and Rebecca Leslie, the latter of which was coming off a career season.

“While it was my intention to continue and finish my career in Ottawa,” Jenner wrote. “The organization has decided to move in a different direction, and my time here has come to a close.”

Jenner has been with the Charge since day one. She was one of the three foundational signings the team made back in 2023. She has since helped establish the team in Canada’s capital to be one of the scrappiest, but more successful teams in the PWHL. With Jenner wearing the ‘C,’ Ottawa had made it to the last two Walter Cup finals. She’s been one of the top offensive weapons, not just in Ottawa, but across the PWHL. This past season, she set career highs in goals (12), assists (14) and points (26), finishing fourth in the league in scoring. The Oakville, Ont. native was also named a finalist for Forward of the Year.

In 82 regular-season games, Jenner has posted 28 goals and 33 assists for 61 points, with another four points in 16 postseason games.

Internationally, Jenner is one of the most decorated players of all time. She has won two Olympic gold medals, two Olympic silver medals, four world championships, and six silver medals at the IIHF Women’s World Championship.

With the team also signing Kayle Osborne, Hamilton has two of the five roster spots filled for Phase 2 of the Expansion Player Distribution Process. The second phase ends on June 8 at 1 p.m. ET.
