Penguins’ Sidney Crosby passes Mario Lemieux for eighth in all-time NHL scoring

Sidney Crosby has made a habit out of creating history-making moments, and Sunday night was no different.

The Pittsburgh Penguins’ captain recorded two points in the first period of the team’s game against the Montreal Canadiens, giving him two accomplishments at the same time: He passed Mario Lemieux for eighth on the NHL’s all-time points list, as well as becoming the all-time points leader in Penguins’ franchise history.

After scoring his 20th goal of the season nearly eight minutes into the first, the Penguins were on the power play when a Crosby slap shot led to a rebound goal from Rickard Rakell, giving the 38-year-old two new accomplishments to add to his Hall of Fame resume.

Crosby now has 20 goals and 17 assists for 37 points through 35 games in 2025-26. In 21 NHL seasons, Crosby, taken No. 1 overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, has 645 goals and 1,079 assists for 1,724 points in 1,387 career regular-season games.

Crosby is now just 31 points away from tying Steve Yzerman for sixth on the all-time points list.

During that time, he’s broken the 100-point mark six times, recorded at least 50 assists 12 times, hit the 30-goal mark 13 times and has averaged more than a point-per-game in every season of his career.

Crosby also has 71 goals and 130 assists for 201 points in 180 career playoff games. He captained the Penguins to three Stanley Cup championships in 2009, 2016 and 2017, and helped them reach the Stanley Cup Final in 2008. He also won the Conn Smythe Trophy in both 2016 and 2017.

Crosby has twice won each of the Hart Trophy, the Art Ross Trophy, the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy and the Ted Lindsay Award.
