Penguins’ Blake Lizotte out day-to-day with lower-body injury

A veteran center is on the shelf.
The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that forward Blake Lizotte will not be in the lineup on Tuesday night when the team takes on the Boston Bruins, and is considered day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
Forward Blake Lizotte is day-to-day with a lower-body injury and will not play tonight versus Boston.
At the morning skate, Ben Kindel was seen centering Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust on the top line, with Tommy Novak and Kevin Hayes centering the second and third lines, respectively.
It’s not quite clear when or where Lizotte was hurt. The 28-year-old was in action in the Penguins’ most recent game on Sunday against the Vegas Golden Knights. He logged 14:08 of ice time across 18 shifts, taking a penalty in a 5-0 victory.
This isn’t the first time this season that Lizotte will miss action due to injury. He suffered an injury back in November against the Detroit Red Wings. While he returned to the lineup for the following game, he was placed on injured reserve in early December, missing nine games in the process.
In the 49 games he has played, the Lindstrom, Minn. native has scored seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points. He’s very likely to eclipse his production from last season, where he scored just 20 points in 59 games, and had been on pace to have a career year. Lizotte’s best performance came as a member of the Los Angeles Kings during the 2022-23 campaign, where he posted 11 goals and 34 points.
Lizotte had recently signed a three-year contract extension, keeping him on the books through the 2028-29 season. The deal carries an AAV of $2.25 million.
The Penguins (31-1-5-13) sit tied for second in the Metropolitan Division with the New York Islanders. The two teams sit seven points back of the Carolina Hurricanes for first place.
