Flyers sign Christian Dvorak to five-year contract extension

The Philadelphia Flyers have agreed to terms with center Christian Dvorak on a five-year contract extension carrying a $5.15 million annual cap hit, the club announced Monday evening.
Daily Faceoff‘s Anthony Di Marco was the first to report that the Flyers and Dvorak were nearing a new contract on Monday afternoon. The 29-year-old pivot has nine goals and 25 points in 39 games with the Flyers this season.
The Flyers initially signed Dvorak to a one-year, $5.4 million-AAV contract as an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He became eligible to sign an extension with the Flyers on New Years’ Day, and his new deal represents a slight haircut financially in exchange for five times as much term.

A second-round pick (No. 58 overall) of the Arizona Coyotes in the 2014 NHL Draft, Dvorak spent his junior career with the OHL’s London Knights, winning the Memorial Cup with the team in 2016.
Dvorak debuted with the Coyotes in 2016-17 and spent his first five NHL seasons in the desert, helping the club reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2020. In the 2021 offseason, the Coyotes traded Dvorak to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for a 2022 first-round pick and a 2024 second-round pick.
Acquired to help offset the loss of Jesperi Kotkaniemi to the Carolina Hurricanes, Dvorak never quite reached his potential in Montreal. The Palos Heights, Illinois product recorded 33 points in 56 games with the Canadiens in the 2021-22 season but never exceeded that total again over the next three years.
In 573 career games over parts of 10 seasons with the Coyotes, Canadiens, and Flyers, Dvorak has collected 114 goals and 274 points. He’s added four goals and five points in 14 career playoff contests with the Coyotes and Canadiens.
